I dont’ know what it is,, but I seem to have an eye for catching the sun on a rope,, or power line as this one is.,, there was a lot of smoke in the atmosphere, giving the sun the pink tones,,,,,this is what I saw,,, no editing here,,,, and it was spectacular!!! If this is what early man saw,,, no wonder he thought the gods were angry,, or the sky was falling….....so unnatural, but so beautiful!!!! Was out today again looking for fall color’s. The prairie grass is starting to take on it’s fall colors and this pretty tree now in it’s transitional stage of changing color’s I think fall is starting to arrive softly. I think another one to two weeks will be prime time here. I used a circular polarizer and a ND grad 2 stop and having really no ideal what I was doing but I guess in photography there is always a learning curve. Nikon D80 Sigma 10-20mm lens used. F14 1/100 sec 10mm. Cropped from original image. Northwest Indiana, October of 2009. Thanks for looking. © Curtiss Simpson /
I didn’t see the face in the clouds until I downloaded when I got home today but I think it is really cool. This is an abandoned homestead west of Longview, Alberta on the way to the Highwood Pass into Kanaskis country. I have passed by this little place a few time but decided to stop today and see what I could get and to my surprise I got my favorite shot of the day. Nikon D300 / Sigma 10-20mm
We are getting into the harvest season in South Dakota. The moon rises have shown everything from amber to orange to red moons. A few days after the full moon, it was still casting some wonderful ambient light over the prairie. The photo was taken using natural light with Olympus E-510, 40-150mm Zuiko lens, focal length 40mm, ISO 200, f/4, 1/30 second. The only editing was to resize when developing from RAW format.
Featured in Deer Me!!! on October 1st, 2009.^ / Featured in The Fabulous Prairies on September 29th, 2009.* Two mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) run at breakneck speed through scrubland in a river valley in the prairies of southern Alberta. These two broke from shelter and ran towards us despite our obvious presence, leading one to wonder just what was behind them. Captured from hiking paths along the Milk River in Writing-On-Stone Provincial Park, in Alberta, Canada. / Taken with a Canon Rebel XSi, using a 55-250mm lens.

! Featured in the ImageWriting (2/24) group on 20 November 2009 Location: Taken just before dusk at Sunset Beach just south of Grand Beach on Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada. The island in the distance is called Bird Island…Looking due north, to the left where the water meets the sky, is approximately 416 km (258 mi) to the distant shore. Interesting Facts Lake Winnipeg is a very large (24,514 square kilometers (9,465 sq mi)) lake in central North America, in the province of Manitoba, Canada, about 55 kilometres (34 mi) north of the city of Winnipeg. It is the largest lake within the borders of southern Canada, and it is part of the most undeveloped and pristine large watershed of southern Canada. It is the sixth-largest freshwater lake in Canada, but it is relatively shallow (mean depth of 12 m (39 ft), excluding a narrow 36 m (118 ft) deep channel between the northern and southern basins. It is the eleventh-largest freshwater lake on Earth. The east side of the lake has pristine boreal forests and rivers that are being promoted as a potential United Nations World Heritage Park. The lake is elongated in shape and looking to the left here, is 416 km (258 mi) from north to south, with remote sandy beaches, large limestone cliffs, and many bat caves in some areas. Manitoba Hydro uses the lake as one of the largest reservoirs in the world. There are many islands in the lake and most are undeveloped and pristine Camera Details: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi, 55mm Lens, Aperture exp 13.0, Shutter speed 1/400, ISO 200

The Fabulous Prairies would showcase “the prairies” from all over the world. It would not be limited to Saskatchewan and Manitoba in Canada. Prairies in North America extend from central Texas to southern Saskatchewan, including most of Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, South Dakota, and North Dakota, and parts of other nearby states and provinces. We would love to see anything and everything from endless skies to farmlands etc..anything that says “Prairie”. These include any prairie photos from anywhere in the world.
Please add the location of your image for acceptance into the group, and for the interest of where the photo is from. This can be done in the description
