I just bought this ukelele a few days ago and decided to start a series to display where I hang out and where you could take your Uke to play a tune. Taken at Clifton Beach in Cairns Far North Queensland.
This idea was suggested to me by Nathan Elliott (a harmonica player). I chose a variety of Hohner harmonicas we had at the shop including their “Blues Harp,” “Special 20,” “Marine Band,” and “Pro Harp.” It is painted with Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. It’s original size was 14” x 10”. Featured in The Collector’s Corner in November 2009. /
This is the same guitar used in my Oceania image which I have a little story there… / / It is made of one piece, handmade and carved from a single piece of wood by the husband of a lady I know, creating a special island guitar, owned by a wonderful Pacific islander lady whose chin is a pattern of old green tribal tattoos. She sang her island songs in our main street the other day and her wonderful guitar made such an impression on me I asked for a photograph of it to which she proudly showed it off, with it’s lovely Aussie Opal set into the black, a special guitar indeed. / FEATURED in 60’s GLORY Snapped as is with my Canon PowerShot A480 /
I found yet another old accordian. This one was in much better shape than the last one. I am so amazed by all the decoration they put on these instruments. This beauty looks like it was covered with Mother of Pearl. I bet it was someones pride and joy at some time, now laying useless on the floor of (yet another) antique mall. I loved the patterns and colors in this old instrument so I simply had to save a picture. I hope you enjoy it too. Canon G9 Compact / ISO 640 (auto) / f/2.8 / 1/20 sec /

My step-father plays the guitar… very well, I might add. When he comes home from a long day of working in a factory, he can usually be found in the kitchen strumming his guitar, filling the entire house with music. I stopped by one evening to visit with the folks and had my camera with me, so I snapped a few shots and applied some Photoshop treatments to this one. Another button accordion from the collection of accordionist Dan Possumato, this model is Irish made. I wanted a slightly more playful/cartoonish version to add to this series while still maintaining a connection with the other three accordions in the series. Each in the series needed to remain an individual and yet still tie together with the others to preserve the continuity of the group. This particular piece is painted with a combination of Daniel Smith Primatek and Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paints and is on a substrate of Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. The original piece is 14”x10.25” in size. Featured in The Collector’s Corner in November 2009. /

This is one of the many trumpets I have worked on during my long career as a brass instrument repair technician. I hate to bring my work home with me but, on occasion, my work can provide inspiration. This is painted on Arches 140# paper with 18th century reproduction watercolor paint. A little, vintage Sunbeam electric clock ..no, radio, no, cd just an annoying, alarm, (but they all are), and a cool, adjustable orange light. The “Light Control” sets it to dim or light for eve viewing. Date probably late 60’s -70s. Marked Subeam Corporation Chicago, U.S.A. I loved the colors of it and just had to use it in a shoot.
