From Aesop’s Fables: A Tortoise, dissatisfied with lowly crawling on the ground, envied the birds who could soar high into the clouds whenever they desired. One day, he offered an Eagle all the treasures in the ocean if she would only teach him how to fly. The Eagle declined the offer at first, but the Tortoise kept insisting and pleading. “Fine, I will teach you to fly,” siad the Eagle and, taking him up in her talons carried him high into the sky. As she let go of him, she said, “Now, spread your legs and fly!” But before the Tortoise could say one word in response, he plunged straight down, hit a rock, and was dashed to pieces. Moral: Demand your own way, demand your own ruin. This pair come from the classic fable from Aesop: The country mouse had a visit from his cousin from the big city, who was very dismissive of the simple country life. “Come stay with me in the city and see how well you can really live!” the city mouse said. So the country mouse went with him to the fine townhouse where rare delicacies were served on silver platters. Just when the country mouse was thinking that his cousin had the right way of it, the homeowner’s dogs came charging into the room and the mice had to run for their lives. Realizing that the constant terror was the price his cousin paid to live in the lap of luxury, the country mouse ran all the way back to his humble but peaceful country home. This image comes from one of the more tragic Greek myths in Ovid’s Metamorphoses. Aesacus was infatuated with a girl named Hesperie, and was chasing her through the woods when a snake bit her on the ankle and she died. Feeling sorrow and guilt over what happened, Aesacus tried to kill himself by throwing himself off of a cliff into the ocean. The gods saw this, and decided instead to turn him into the seabird known as a diver which throws itself into the sea over and over again but always returns to the surface. I sought to capture the very essence and soul of my home town of Memphis Tennessee in this new collage of my original photos. I am living there again and have been seeking to make creative and positive change through my art…it is working. / The Mighty Mississippi River churns her way past Memphis and her muddy history is as rich as the soulish music she has brought forth. This piece embodies that resilient spirit of the past as the cotton pickers of old held onto their joyous dance and song in spite of the travesties against humanity they endured. / I hope this work will enrich your heart and home and help you and yours to bring about a better humanity; as we trudge away from the past and begin a new future for America and the World.

Aquilla the Beaver has decided to become an artist and this annoys her mom become as we all know beavers are builders not artists. Aquilla discovers that she can paint her own world of bright colours and she can create a giant rock that stops a rushing river from flooding her mommy and daddy’s home on the wetlands..her brush contains the paint that she needs and her skill and imagination save the day. / This is a water color and acrylic on paper.-the beaver is a symbol for strength and determination and the channel through which the art form becomes a creation-thus the builder creates her own world and produces changes in her life and the life of others l
