I met this man while walking around Key West. He was sitting on the concrete steps and I just loved his face. I asked if I could take his picture and he said yes and picked up his walking cane and used it like a guitar!!. After I finished, he asked me for 40cents for a hot dog! I gave him two dollars. As the day wore on, I wished I had given him more. You never know when you’re going to meet an angel! I hope I didn’t fail that test! Well the idea is to go IN the toilet, right? Ha! Poor kid! She falls in & I run for my camera first, then get her out. How rude! Really funny, but rude! Therapy here she comes!!!! This is a special attribute I give to all good mothers. What would we do without them? Words are easily expressed when one is so deserving of them. Though we are limited to how much we can express, I feel it is appropriately put together in this poem.

Sometimes in our lives we all have pain / We all have sorrow / But if we are wise / We know that there’s always tomorrow Lean on me, when you’re not strong / And I’ll be your friend / I’ll help you carry on / For it won’t be long / ‘Til I’m gonna need / Somebody to lean on Please swallow your pride / If I have things you need to borrow / For no one can fill those of your needs / That you don’t let show Lean on me, when you’re not strong / And I’ll be your friend / I’ll help you carry on / For it won’t be long / ‘Til I’m gonna need / Somebody to lean on If there is a load you have to bear / That you can’t carry / I’m right up the road / I’ll share your load / If you just call me So just call on me brother, when you need a hand / We all need somebody to lean on / I just might have a problem that you’d understand / We all need somebody to lean on Lean on me when you’re not strong / And I’ll be your friend / I’ll help you carry on / For it won’t be long / Till I’m gonna need / Somebody to lean on Lean on me… / by Bill Withers

~ I think the title of this one speaks for itself. There is an undeniable beauty to life, when one stops for a moment, and looks around from a child’s point of view.
I heard this busker playing a didgeridoo long before I could actually see him outside Hamer Hall, on St Kilda Road. Luckily I had my long lens on, so I was able to shoot a few frames from several metres away. The light was so bright and the contrast with his black clothing and the dark didgeridoo was so strong that I had to wait for a passer-by in the distance to break up the starkness. This shot is my favourite from the sequence of four or five frames that I shot, because of his intense concentration, the clarity of his eyes and the angle of his upper body. He spotted me as I hit the trigger – and then he launched into an extraordinary display of balance and control, literally balancing the long Aboriginal musical instrument above his upturned head as he stretched both arms out for perfect balance, like a tightrope walker. I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a 70-300m lens. F8, 1/250 sec, ISO 400, focal length 300mm. Mother and children in a rural village in Laos. Laos was a French colony at the start of the 20th century. It was a union of two former kingdoms, Luang Prabang and Vientiane. The French administered it as a territory within the protectorate of French Indo-China. After World War II, French Indo-China was divided up into three independent countries within the French Union: Cambodia, Laos (independent on 1949-07-19), and Vietnam.
