INTERVIEW with SunChaser

Thanks for agreeing to be our featured member for a time! We would like to ask just a few questions of our featured members and display one of your images on the South Dakota group homepage

Sounds fun! Ask away…

The first question is two-fold and really easy, “What is your name and where are you from?”

My name is Jeanne Apelseth and I was born and raised in the Black Hills of South Dakota

What is your favorite part of South Dakota (geographically)?

Most people would say the Black Hills, but believe it or not, I actually like the prairie best…..the meadowlarks singing, the smell of the prairie grass, looking over the seeming never ending landscape, the wildlife, the amazingly blue sky when it is sunny, and the stormy skies when it rains. The prairie is ever changing and always a challenge to photograph.

Is there a place in this state that you haven’t been to but would like to see yet?

I haven’t been to the Standing Rock or Rosebud Reservations, but they are on the top of my list for this summer’s road trips. My favorite thing of all is to take photo shoots with the love of my life, Michael. He is so supportive and encouraging of my photography and has never ending patience when I am photographing a subject. If it wasn’t for him, I probably would have given up years ago.

What is your favorite image in your portfolio and why? (I know it might be hard to pick one!)

My favorite image on RedBubble is “Digital Beauty”:http://www.redbubble.com/people/sunchaser/art/3008720-6-digital-beauty, a digital painting of two horses. I am really enjoying digital painting. It lets me take my photography one step further. And it makes the long South Dakota winters pass quickly.

Which of your art work(s) have gotten the most views?

My top three images on RedBubble by # of views are:
“Snow & Sand” -1716 views (Taken on the west coast of Norway)

“My Own Private Paradise” (Taken in western Norway)

“Frosted Tree” – 999 view (A South Dakota shot)

What kind of camera do you use and what piece of photography equipment or ‘gadget’ is on your wish list?

I finally went digital a year and a half ago. Michael surprised me with a Nikon D300. After spending almost my entire adult life working with film, developing my own film and printing my own images, I had decided I would never give up film. Guess what! I haven’t looked back once. The opportunities that digital imaging has brought me are stunning! I simply can’t get enough. I just love my Nikon!

Next on my equipment wish list is a really good Nikon high powered lens. Maybe a AF VR Zoom- NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D ED or a AF-S VR Zoom- NIKKOR 200-400mm f/4G IF-ED. I like to shoot wildlife and the lens I have doesn’t always do the trick! Other than that a computer update is sorely needed! Our storage is full and the machine just can’t keep up with the file sizes we work with! And a WACOM tablet would be such a treat for the digital painting.

Thank you very much Jeanne! We appreciate your contributions to the South Dakota group very much!
