Dear Esteemed Nominees and Solo Exhibition Members,

Congratulations on having works selected for this first Juried Invitational Exhibition,
presented by Solo Exhibition.

The group is full of talented artists. And today, this week, we celebrate your work.

As you know, your artwork or photography was nominated by one or more from a
select panel of nominators. The nominators will normally be made up of past Solo-Artists
(meaning those who have had a Solo show, with the group), artist-writers of Inside Solo
magazine (because they have honed their skills reviewing works each week), and
possibly an honored guest from time to time.

For our first show, your hosts, Maxy and myself, really wanted to be part of the process.
So we were two of the nominators. Linaji, who solo’d with us earlier this month was the
third nominator. The panel will change each month!

Your jury panel was made of three past Solo Artists, whom I consider experts. The jury panel will also change each month. The jury panel for the 1st Juried Invitational Art Exhibition was made up of Vonne Emerson (expertise: digital art), Scott d’ Almeida (expertise: photography), and Scott Naismith (expertise: traditional art).

Judges awarded 1st – 3rd places in each category. The work with the highest score was awarded Best in Show. Each judge also gave out their own special awards. The Best in Show winner, Bruno Wubik, won a $20 RedBubble voucher.

The exhibit is open to comments! The show ran March 29th through April 4th, 2010.

Congratulations!! You are a winner just being here, today!

That Special Dimension of Self
by robpixaday

Photo image and abstract image (originally rendered in GIMP) combined, painted, and edited in Photoshop Elements 3.

The likelihood of multiple universes and dimensions intrigues me. Is there a “self” dimension? Are there simultaneous us’s functioning separately from the physical dimensions? This image is an exploration of how a “self” could exist in and separate from the physical.

As evening falls…
by Anna Shaw

Photo Manipulation/Digital Painting

This image was influenced by my favourite artist of all time – J.M. Turner. His image of Flint Castle with all the wonderful colours, and all the different things happening on the beach, was my inspiration.

I did not want to try and copy Turner, but instead to create a modern-day take on that image, with the setting sun, and lots of activity going on at the end of a summer’s day.

This was created in CS4. I started with my own image of Margate Beach and overlaid it with several textures which I created myself. The sky and the sea were painted, using Photoshop media brushes and a Wacom Tablet. Everything else in the image was cut out separately and blended into the image as a whole.
