SoJie Awards TODAY!

Solo’s 22nd Juried Invitational Exhibition of Visual Arts

Dear Esteemed Nominees, Solo Exhibition Members, and Guests,

We’re officially open on Monday, June 24, 2013, when Solo Exhibition presents the 22nd Juried Invitational Art Exhibition, celebrating seventy-six (76) artists, representing over twenty countries, exhibiting 87 artworks and photographs, in its publicly accessible member space on RedBubble, and also on its dot.com.

All works in the show are nominated works, invited after a selection process by a special group of honored members of Solo Exhibition. Some works which were nominated, but did not enter in time for judging, may be shown in the SoJie 22 Annex, on page 4, following the main entries. We treat these works with the same honor and respect as those which made it in time for our jury’s consideration.

Placement Awards

First through Third places in the Traditional Art, Digital Art, and Photographic Art categories, will be awarded, based on the total of ALL Judges’ scores. The artwork with the highest score, over all categories, will be awarded “Best in Show”, besides a category first place. Honors awards are give to all non-placing works which are in the top scoring tier over all categories and works in the show. Judges will also make special merit awards.

Scoring is done individually by each judge, from within a special scoring application created by the Founder, which allows the judges to contemplate each full size work while scoring it. However, the process of tallying and calculating placement and honors awards is automated, and generally involves no human intervention. Not even the judges can be sure of the outcome, until the Awards Day ceremony. For this event, we had a highly unusual three-way tie for Best in Show, wherein Judges had to have a second vote on just those three; a very rare “human” intervention. All three will be honored at the awards; but only one will receive “Best in Show”.

Awards Day will be on Thursday, June 27, at 11 AM, New York time. (<< click for the worldclock time in your city) The interactive awards ceremony is held in the virtual exhibition space on RedBubble, with a party afterwards, for all who are awake! Virtual drink and no-calorie goodies to celebrate a great show.

New members of Team Solo will be announced at the Ceremony.

Congratulations to all! And thank you for coming to the exhibition and supporting these wonderful artists from all over the globe.

Your comments on the art are welcome. Comments begin following the exhibits; on page 5.

Respectfully,

F.A. Moore, Solo Founder and host

Elizabeth Bravo, Solo Graphics Coordinator

and all of TEAM SOLO

Digital Fine Art, influenced by the Romantic “Pre-Raphaelite” and Arts and Crafts styles.

While man attempts to recreate his universe through science, emulating God; at the core,
each of us struggles with daily choices that eclipse logic.

Are choices of the heart logical or divinely inspired, impetuous or practical, or do these rather
define constraints of the mind? Should the heart always win over thought process, or does
one inform the other?

These were the thoughts I had, when creating this work.

Yeats’s poem is meant to go with this image. Just as Yeats sees a time of relative order being
followed by a period of chaos (according to one interpretation) and an antichrist being born,
so I am suggesting that a period of darkness is due as a sort of result of the millions of abortions
carried out in our age.

Book 1 – Shadows in the Attic
by MattCole

Traditional Art
Watercolour & Acrylic on pure cotton watercolour paper

You see, when children go to sleep they often dream… fantastical, vivid, dreams… and sometimes when their
dreams are particularly real and because it can, the child’s soul will leave its body… and go wandering.

Sometimes they wander so far they come upon a strange and distant land. The soul is enthralled, enticed onwards
by the curious sights and peculiar sounds of this new place.

But danger lurks here… for if the soul travels too long and too far, sometimes it can’t find its way back to the
body and it is lost. Then the Snickelways Man comes to find it… and bring it home.
