Cityscape Workshop (locked)

F.A. Moore F.A. Moore 37018 posts

UPDATE: We have moved!

As of October 1, 2013, all workshops, catalogs, and artist and photographer studios are now under one roof, at the Workshop Studios.

Please come visit our catalogs and studios, there.

The original Cityscape workshop, however all takes place in the comments in the following pages.

The pages will now be locked against changes, but there is much to be enjoyed from paging through the in-process sharing of
art and photography, here. Please feel free to look, learn, and enjoy.

Welcome to the Cityscape workshop

Workshops inspire and challenge Solo artists to produce works that are in the “Best of” category. This might be “Best of class”, “Best of show”, or even “My Personal Best!” We have seen again and again in the workshops, the personal growth and confidence that comes from the group experience, not to mention beautiful, prize winning works.

Certain photographs (mostly) will be selected for the Workshop Catalog, from the generous offering of participating Solo member photographers. Participants may choose to contact a participating photographer with a request to translate their work.

Workshop Badge

Workshop Badges – index page
Code for a linked workshop badge. 2012 and 2013 badges.

Just scroll down and search for your workshop. These don’t go all of the way back to the first workshops, but they do cover the current ones, and last year’s. There are separate badges for works in the CATALOGs. :)

Suggested use:

  1. adding them to the description page of the work; and or
  2. adding to your profile page

TERMS FOR TRANSLATORS.

Adjustments to balance your final in-camera shot, in order to closely match your original artwork, are allowed and encouraged. (see video tutorials on how to do this in Solo’s 2012 Graphic Essentials Workshop)

You agree to add a linked thumbnail image of the cataloged work, which inspired your translation, to your main image page— in the description for the final work.

You agree to allow Solo Exhibition and its hosts and supporters to promote your translated work, in association with this workshop, both on RedBubble and solo-exhibition.com.

You agree to make only one translation request, per workshop, during a 24 hour period.

You agree to seek out and then perform only one translation at a time per workshop. No exceptions.

You agree to keep up with updates posted here by Solo hosts and workshop helpers.

You agree to be genteel to fellow participants of the workshop, even when (especially when) they do something with which you disagree, including their approach to art. The hosts will respond accordingly to any inappropriate approach, or misunderstandings to approach of the art.

You agree to enter into a “written agreement” with your originator, so as to protect their copyright for the original cataloged work, and to protect your own original translation with your copyright. The agreement template will be posted here.

You understand and agree that Solo is not a party to your agreement.

You agree to hold Solo Exhibition harmless and indemnify Solo hosts for any mishaps, misunderstandings, or misappropriations that result from this workshop or the appearance of your work in the catalog, exhibition, workshop, journals, or advertising space.

Unless explicitly notifying the hosts, in writing, through bubblemail, you agree that it is okay (but not mandatory) for Solo to add a link, to a workshop or studio post, to Facebook, Twitter, and or Google plus; and to “select a thumbnail” for that post. Understand that these posts may be “retweeted” or “liked” by followers, outside of Solo’s control. Please notify us as soon as possible, if you prefer that we not add a link to any of your posts surrounding the workshop on any social platform, or on a particular social platform. Note that Solo will never upload your photo to their account on these social networks.

You agree to post your agreement with the ORIGINATOR (Photographer), below, in the comments, although you may delete the contents of the last paragraph, usually paragraph 8, which is private and optional. Please post it before starting your art.

You agree to post work in progress images during the time you are working on a new piece in the workshop. The number and frequency is at your discretion. The more you post, the more we get out of it, and usually the more you get out of it.

Extra Credit: The workshop is about growth. The challenger is you. The challenged is you. But please also consider others, and drop an occasional note of encouragement, here, even if someone’s art is not up to your personal standards or level of achievement. To those to whom many gifts are given, much is demanded.

Remember, everyone is on their own personal journey. Each person is sharing their personal journey with us. Let’s enjoy the ride and make it fun!

CITYSCAPE CATALOG

This time, we have a separate section for the CATALOG, so they have their own spacious area to be showcased.

View the combined Cityscape and Minimalism Catalog TERMS FOR CATALOG ENTRIES. are also there.

DOWNLOAD THE AGREEMENT

Agreement Download (between Originating Photographers and Artists)

THE AGREEMENTS ARE DIFFERENT FOR EACH WORKSHOP. PLEASE USE THE ONE APPROPRIATE FOR THE WORKSHOP.

Because of the way most browsers delete the white space, when copying text, like below; it may work better for you if you either click and copy from the linked file, above, or Control-click the link, and “Download File” to your own computer’s download directory. It’s plain text, not an html file. So it cannot hurt your computer in any way.

Remember to open it in some neutral text editor, like Notepad, or “TextEdit” (which is on all Macs). But not Word or WordPad, because those two apps often add funky characters in place of some plain text.

NOTE: if you are translating or referencing your OWN PHOTOGRAPH, or a PUBLIC DOMAIN image, you don’t need this agreement. :). Common sense, but thought it best to clarify. In those cases, just post the photograph or public domain image from which you plan to work, in your first post!

Use the Easy Button to grab the RB code for the image you have agreed to translate or reference. “Feature Medium” is a nice size for pasting above your agreement in a comment. You can also use it for your WIPs.

Those of you who remember what to do, please lead the way, in pasting your digitally signed agreement before you start work. Good luck!

Excellent, Ludwig! Thanks for leading out with posts to the Catalog. We so appreciate your contributions to that. You are also very welcome
on the workshop side, where we encourage Photographers to post works in progress, surrounding their entire experience to get that one great shot.

Excellent, Richard. It’s so good to see you. We have a lot of Italian fare; as I know how you
must consider Italy almost a second home by now. But also other beautiful European locations.
Hope you will join the Masterpiece workshop, also, where you will actually set up your own “studio”
space (topic), in order to keep all of your notes and updates organized. You may use your own references.

Fantastic everyone!

If you all know of good Solo city photographers, contact them and them you want to see their work in the catalog. Give them the link to the catalog, not the workshop. They also have a message in their inbox from me. But a message from you can’t hurt.

We’ll give them another day and then get started. We’ll continue to accept catalog works.

Agreements will go up later today. You will be able to click the link provided, and simply copy or right click and save the the plain text file.

“Plain text” means that there is no HTML markup. You will want to copy that agreement into a plain text editor: “Notepad” for Windows, “TextEdit” (or TextWrangler, or BBEdit) for Mac, and for Linux, your favorite app for plain text editing.

AGREEMENT IS UP! Download it from the link above, OR screen-copy the agreement that is shown in full.

The download will be the cleanest, because it is plain text and will have the paragraph formatting in tact.

Please post your digitally signed translation agreement, HERE, in this space. Veterans of the workshops know that it’s nice to add a small picture, from the Easy Button, of the image you are translating, IF you are translating one.

Photographers participating in the workshop are not translating, so don’t need an agreement. :))

Beatrice Congratulations. Beatrice apparently has the first contract.

However it’s in the wrong place. :)

This is like a wedding… it just would not be right unless the bride groom or someone in the wedding party misplaced something.
LOL! So thanks Beatrice for starting us off right. Now I feel like luck is with us. :D

Post your finalized contracts in a comments below :)

Beatrice will you be also working in the Masterpiece Workshop?

Even if you have not decided yet what you will undertake, it might be a good idea to set up your studio.
Studios are created as a new topic under the forum, Masterpiece Workshop.

Each participating artist will organize everything in their own studio space.
Yours would be: Beatrice Cloake Studio
