New world, New eyes
by ArtLacoque

Photographic Art

Canon rebel XT

Taken at Muir woods of my daughter. I was watching her in the distance and I could see that the light had nice contrast on her skin. With this light I found that so much of the detail of her hair was visible. As I watched her looking at every little branch and piece of bark I saw a wonder in my daughters eyes…..her gaze came from the amazement that she felt and I am glad that I captured it.

Face
by bernard lacoque

Traditional Art

Acrylic on listing paper (known as continuous computerpaper)

This is a work that Bernard felt was one of his best. Of course as you all know as artists, this continues and he found more as he went along. But this one was quite special in his eyes. Bernard did not often articulate about what he found to be special in a work, so he looked to others to tell him. But for him this was a very strong work.

Snailman
by bernard lacoque

Traditional Art

Acrylic on listing paper (Known as continuous computer paper)

It is a self portrait Bernard said the snail in its slowness is a part of himself when getting to know, feeling and understanding thoughts and people he needed enough time to leave his snail house.

My Portrait Photographic Journey! Created for the Portrait Workshop – Challenge; the focus using natural light on your subject.
Outdoors, I had my little “model” (daughter of a friend) sit on a glider that had a light beige canvas top covering the seat. The material of the glider was a dark grey mesh that provided a neutral background and her white dress highlighted the face. This afternoon was cloudy and provided a wonderful soft diffused light.

The model is in front of a Savage paper black backdrop. I used four lights: two hair lights behind and two face lights in front. If you think of a square, the model is in the middle of the square and there is a light in each corner. If the you think of the upper left as 1, the upper right as two, the lower right as three and the lower left as four, then one is a hair light high with a purple gel, two is a hair light with a soft box diffuser, three is a beauty light with a diffuser and four is a light behind the max operandi diffuser and one very big fan.

Muddied Dreams
by Dianne Ilka

Traditional Art

Acrylic (burnt umber and white) on box canvas
8 × 8 in.

All children have dreams and hopes for the future. For some though, their dreams are a little more “muddied”…
I hope that one day we can live in a world where children are free to be children and can dream that anything is possible :)

'Lady Missouri', Great, Great, Grandma,
full blood Cherokee American Indian, A Cherokee Fantasy
by luvapples downunder/ Norval Arbogast

Digital Art

3587 X 3800 px
Software: Mouse Drawn and painted in Photoshop 5.5, Windows ’98

This is a fantasy painting of what I would like GG Grandma to look like. All the information I have is just names in old documents and family pass down. GG Grandpa came from Spain to this territory that would become Missouri in the late 1700’s and married GG Grandma a full blood Cherokee. Their son my G Grandpa married a full blood Cherokee too. A picture from those years doesn’t exist so I have taken one of my Botticelli’s ladies and modified it with traits that have come down through the generations. For the background I have used renowned Missouri frontier painter George Caleb Binghams’s ‘Fur Traders on the Missouri’. I have modified it in photoshop to better fit my design in color and size. I hope you enjoy this little personal fantasy. I have enjoyed creating it.

by Randi Antonsen

Traditional Art

Medium: Mixed Media: pencil, pen, color pencils
Size: A3

A clean and simple drawing with pencil, mixed with some colors and shapes in her beautiful flowing hair. I hope this small effect of color enhances the illustration and give us a sense of what happens inside a dancing little girl with wind in her hair.
