Solo’s Juried Invitational Exhibition of Visual Art

Solo’s 13th Juried Invitational Exhibition features digital art and its re-interpretation in traditional mediums
of oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, pencil, and mixed-media; re-interpretation in photographic art; and even
re-interpretation in digital art.

The collaborators were active in a workshop setting for 4 weeks. During that time, the following events took place:

Digital Artists submitted digital artwork, which they themselves selected, for the show.
The basis works could be in any digital art genre, from photo compositing and/or manipulation, to digital painting, to fractals, and any combination of these.
Artworks were qualified and approved.
Artists contacted the Originating Artists with a request to translate their work.
Artists entered into explicit written agreement about terms of use of the resource, and copyrights, and credits.
Artist and Photographers interpreted/translated the work in their own style, and through their own eyes and experience.
Translating Artists and Photographers posted 2 or more works in progress, discussing the stage in which they were then working.
Translating Artists and Photographers posted final works.
Qualified translations also qualified the work they translated, for the exhibition.

Here, we at last arrive at SoJie 13, the exhibition hall, itself. SoJie 13 is the golden carrot, the goal of the SoJie 13 workshop. The journey to get here was fantastic.

Translated works are shown just below the Originating work, from which they took inspiration, or in some cases, attempted to reproduce. You may see as many as three translations below the originating collaborator – one in each of the main categories (Traditional, Photographic, and Digital).

Some artists and photographers translated literally, from one medium to another. Others, instead, took inspiration, while still maintaining a tie to the emotion, the style, the composition, and/or the interpreted meaning of the originating work. The approaches were as varied as the artists and photographers participating, which makes for a sensually rich, eclectic mix of art in the show.
