Update, Monday, June 27.
The deadline for Photography was over 24 hours ago.
Those works on the first 4 pages below, are open for offers from Traditional Artists now.
Please do not post photography. Thank you.
Continue…
Thursday, June 23, 2011
This is the Open Application and Workspace for a photographic exhibition of Solo Photographers. This is NOT, repeat NOT the exhibition space. It’s the WORKSPACE.
Goal: Photographers will post a work that represents not only one of their best works, but that would make a great painting or drawing. Traditional Artists will then be invited to peruse and select one work, and discuss with the artist how they would approach the translation. Once agreed between photographer and artist, the Artist will paint (or draw, as agreed) and post works in progress to this space. After a time, a formal exhibition space will be dedicated to a show, which will be promoted on RedBubble, Twitter, Facebook, and solo-exhibition.com.
Private agreements may include trades, purchases, discounts, etc. and should be kept private between the photographer and artists. Finished artworks should be made available as prints and/or cards on RedBubble.
Rules for Photographers 1) Only Photographers may post, initially. IF PHOTOGRAPHY IS NOT YOUR PRIMARY MEDIUM, DO NOT POST, PLEASE. 2) Only Photographers currently in Solo Exhibition group as of June 23, 2011 may participate. 3) Photographs posted must be of high quality, high resolution, meet the qualifications of the group, and ALREADY be in (i.e., accepted by) the group as of June 23, 2011. This means:
- NO FLORALS and no NO NUDES, as these have been on the do-nOT-pOST list for over a year.
- The work cannot have been nominated for a previous SoJie, as that’s a SoJie rule.
- Please note that works in Moderation are NOT officially “in the group”.
Currently, 60-75% of works in moderation do not make it into the group, for one of the 12 reasons stated in the agreement. - Your photograph must have been ACCEPTED into the group by the end of my day, Thursday (in the past now)
4) This Special Easy Button version must be used to post. Solo hosts will go back through and enlarge these to the largest version without a center watermark. 5) Photographers should post ONLY ONE work. 6) For the work to be in the exhibition, you must okay one of the solo member traditional artists to paint your image. Photographs which ultimately are not painted, will not be in the exhibition, proper. 7) You must watch the topic, so that you can see contact from artists, here. 8) Check back to make sure your post here shows APPROVED below it. 9) Deadline has been moved up to Sunday, June 26th (8 AM, New York time), to post, as we already have 63 “Approved” images after only 12 hours. Deadline World Clock Check your town for YOUR date and time.
Use the red Edit button on the top right of any Solo page and click the link that says “My Works”. Those will all be works of yours that are in the group. Pick one of those. (It cannot be a single flower shot or nude, as those are no longer accepted.)
Rules for Artists
- Only Artists currently in Solo Exhibition group as of June 23, 2011 may participate.
- This particular Exhibit is for Traditional translations, not digital.
- Painting or drawing in mediums as follows: oil, acrylic, tempera, watercolor, pastel,
graphite, color pencil, pens, pen & ink, or collage. These can be mixed. Surface may be paper, canvas, board, wood, or anything agreed to. - Contact with the photographers should generally and when possible be made in this workshop space.
- But initial contact may be made by email.
- Discuss with the photographer your proposal to paint, including the MEDIUM AND STYLE.
e.g.; Abstract, Impressionistic, Stylized, Realistic, “your style”, etc. - The photographer must agree in writing to have you translate his or her work to THE MEDIUM AND STYLE discussed.
- One photographic work will be matched to one artist. Two artists will not be assigned to the same photograph.
- DOWNLOAD THE AGREEMENT FROM PAGE 5, fill your portion out and send to the photographer to do the same.
- Post it back here in the comments, except for the private terms that you outline in paragraph 8. We don’t want to see those. :)
- Any translation without expressed agreement is forbidden.
- At least TWO Works in Progress posts are expected, HERE, in this workspace. (Exception. Watercolor, only ONE WIP.)
WHILE YOU ARE IN PROCESS. (as opposed to when you post the final). - Finished paintings should be made available as prints and/or cards on RedBubble.
- Works should be completed by the end of July, 2011. That is about 4+ weeks away.
- Note. Artists working in quick mediums may apply to FRANNIE, privately, to create up to TWO works.
- The agreement as posted on page 5 must be “signed” (with typed names and dates) between the photographer and you.
This is to protect both of your interests, so that there is a clear understanding between you.
If there is any reason that you cannot (or did not) follow one of these rules, just write a note to Frannie and explain the situation. The main aim is the goal. But these other things simply help us to fulfill the goal, in what seems at the moment, as a very good, useful way.
SoJie 12 will be in: August, 2011
This, Special Easy Button version must be used to post. Simply copy the web address that is at the top of your browser when you are on the description page for your image on RedBubble. The description page is where you respond to comments, and is referred to as “public page” by RedBubble. If you are in Edit mode, you will need to hit “VIEW” to see your comment/description page.
Paste THAT web address into the top of the SPECIAL VERSION of the Easy Button. Leave everything checked AS IS. Scroll to the base and hit the little round Easy Button graphic. When the page returns, copy the code in the text box there, and BRING IT BACK HERE TO PASTE TO A NEW COMMENT. Then save reply and you’re done.
Monday, after the closing bell rings for Open Applications, we will notify solo ARTISTS and invite them to come make offers.
WATCH THIS TOPIC after you post.

What a great idea. I have always been envious of people who get their work painted and it would be great to be able to work with an artist in this way.
This is my all time favourite piece and one of my most popular, so it would great to see it what a real artist could make of it.
