I know I can’t take one more step towards you I learned to live half alive And who do you think you are This is currently my favorite portrait in my gallery, inspired by the song Jar of Hearts. I love when a portrait flows easily and seems to have a life of its own – such was the case here. I never know how a piece will unfold, each a journey in and of itself. That is so much of the joy of creating for me lately. I have embraced a more intuitive approach to my work in recent months after I did my portrait series called Questions and it has enlivened the creative process for me. |

Smile tho’ your heart is aching, If you smile Light up your face with gladness, That’s the time, If you just smile. I heard this song playing recently while watching ice skating. I was moved by it – the bittersweet words and the encouragement to “smile through the pain”, which I think is sage advice. I knew immediately I wanted to paint a woman expressing the words. I really like how she came out. All my works are very color – driven; intense, rich color seems to convey emotion to me, and putting deep pigment onto wet paper is a high! She has a lot of color that had it’s own way on the paper and gave her a bit of frivolity I think. |

In answer to the question… I hope so – the joy of a splash of cool water on a hot day, or a long look into a beautiful, deep, canyon or flower bed, or the thrill of looking at a new engagement ring, or the first glance at a newborn baby or… you decide. |

Haven’t we all felt like this one time or another? This was a quick, cathartic piece and I still get a kick out of it when I look at her. Some see the victim in this piece, others see the rage and strength not to take ill- treatment anymore. I painted her with the latter in mind. In my therapy work, there is not much greater satisfaction and joy to me than seeing a woman move from hurt and oppressed to strong, centered and empowered! |

This is the sixth piece in my women’s portrait series called “Questions.” The intent of this series was to create interesting art that prompts you to inquire, ponder, reflect and feel something. A variety of water media and styles from abstract to more realistic were used depending on how each piece unfolds. I let the questions emerge after each piece was created so as not to color the direction of the work and to allow for some freedom. I was quite enlivened by the process and hope it gives you something too. |

You take the earth and water it, making it rich and fertile. The river of God has plenty of water; it provides a bountiful harvest of grain, for you have ordered it so. You drench the plowed ground with rain, melting the clods and leveling the ridges. You soften the earth with showers and bless its abundant crops. You crown the year with bountiful harvest; even the hard pathways overflow with abundance. The grasslands of the wilderness become a lush pasture, and the hillsides blossom with joy. The meadows are clothed with flocks of sheep, and the valleys are carpeted with grain. Psalms 65:9 -13 |

I wonder what the world would be like if the peace of God made room in the hearts of those who believe and changed them undeniably such that they could not help but extend peace to others… This is the fourth work in my minimalist series “The Unseen”. |

This blue clematis has garnered a lot of attention in my Bubble, with the most views of any piece I have done. It won a photo painting challenge some time ago, and I was/am grateful Janis Zroback allowed her photo to be painted!! I love painting in watercolor and have a rather methodical approach when I do flowers like these. I like “geeking-out” on the details! |

This is my first commissioned piece and I worked hard on it. I am new to oils and I think technically speaking this is my best piece I have painted. As I have said before, I love little details and trying to get them right so this was a challenge in that. For those of you who like to see a painting in process click on the picture. Thank you for viewing my work and allowing me the chance to share and talk art! |

My first attempt at a watercolor painting many moons ago. |

I was eager to paint another flower up close after Big Blue Clematis and this pink Gerbera daisy caught my eye. Southern California has an abundance of Spring flowers. I hope you enjoy it and it reminds you that Spring is coming! |

I had an absolutely delightful time painting this lake scene. It was the first time I ventured out to paint in the open air. Planted with easel next to this lake, I opted to use many of my favorite colors for a more magical look. With a little white wine to accompany the painting on a beautiful, sunny Southern California day, all was well indeed! |

My mind travels back here every summer and reminds me of the joy, freedom , innocence and goodness that can be in childhood. |

Leslie, you did a great job! Your portraits are very stylish. I was hoping your self portrait would be in here. But these are great representatives of your work. I love awe. Gorgeous in it’s minimal composition and color focus. I’m also impressed by your Big Pink Daisy! You painted that? I hope you’ll come back and fill in details about these pieces. This is your space 100% to show off your work, write about, share tips, whatever you like. I’ll be back as the gallery grows. Thanks for the initial GRAND tour!! |
