This view is featured in the last scene of the movie “Attonement” A 3 Shot HDR Processed in Photomatix Pro / / Seven Sisters Country Park / Found at the point where the South Downs meets the sea, the Sisters were created when ancient rivers cut valleys into the chalk, creating seven peaks. Haven Brow, the highest of them at 253 feet (77 metres), stands majestically to the west of her other sisters who in order are called Short Brow, Rough Brow, Brass Point, Flagstaff Point, Baily’s Brow and Went Hill Brow. Under the sea at the foot of the cliffs are a number of gullies and ridges – varied marine life such as sea anemones, snails, and sponges can be found there. Now part of the Heritage Coast, an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ and also a ‘Site of Special Scientific Interest’, the beauty of the area will be protected for generations to come The area has a long and interesting history, including some fascinating shipwrecks, which you can discover on a series of shorewalks. SSCP is a great place to explore on foot, by bicycle or by canoe, particularly along the spectacular meanders of the Cuckmere River.

Staithes, a fishing village towered over by a headland, with alleys and little cottages. Once over three hundred boats fished from using traditional fishing coble designed to be launched and landed on the beach. The village is much as it was. Here Captain Cook worked when he was young. Also well known for the traditional Staithes bonnets once worn by local women. EOS 1D MkIII, Sigma 12-24mm

The Sussex Downs, between Eastbourne and Brighton. The Seven Sisters cliffs are made of chalk that formed where the South Downs meet the sea. The cliffs are receding at about 30-40cm each year on average. The process is intermittent with major falls occurring after heavy rain or rough seas, often two of three times per year. Where these falls occur they protect the base of the cliffs from the sea and usually there are no falls in the same places for eight or nine years until the sea undercuts the cliffs again.

Lulworth Cove Lulworth Cove is a natural, horse-shoe shaped cove, part of the ‘Jurassic Coast’ world heritage site in south Dorset, England. Although something of a ‘tourist-trap’, few visitors stray more than 400 metres from the car park and most of those that do follow the path west over to Durdle Door. This shot shows the eastern ‘arm’ of the cove and is taken from the coast path high above the pebbly beach. Just to the east of the cove is the Fossil Forest, a rocky ledge along the shoreline where fossilized remains of trees from the Jurassic period can be seen. As with most coastal areas of Dorset, Lulworth was involved in smuggling. Men were lowered by rope to one of the caves near the Fossil Forest, and boats came close enough for them to unload the contraband and stash it in the cave until it was safe enough for them to load it onto horses and carts to be taken over Bindon Hill. Even the local women helped and often they stored kegs of brandy in their cottages. Date: 27th September 2009

It is probably the most photographed landmark of the channel island, and is known for its lovely panoramic views and the extreme tidal activity. Victorian engineer Sir John Coode is responsible for the design by which the lighthouse is built. It was the first lighthouse in the British Isles to be built of reinforced concrete and was lit for the first time on the 24th of April, 1874. The beam of light has a reach of 18 nautical miles. which is a brilliant distance. The lighthouse finally became automated in 1976 and was no longer manned. Paddy’s Hole sits just off Teesmouth, and although it has been photographed many times by a vast number of photographers, often looking peaceful and serene there is a lot more going on behind the wall than most people could imagine. / Huge tankers and ore carriers are passing constantly. Not a mile away is Corus Teesside works with one of Europes largest blast furnaces, and around the Tees Bay there are chemical plants, oil refineries and a nuclear power station. / But this just adds to the fascination of the place.

Dawn at the West pier at Whiby, North Yorkshire. The sun didn’t quite make it through the rain clouds, but the wet boards from the rain and sea swell brought out the detail in the timbers that made up for the lack of colour in the sky.
