Well, I could wax lyrical about this light for hour, the beauty was that the sun never got to break through, the clouds kept moving and kept the light subtle, without the cloud cover i’d be shooting straight into the sun and the image would be a right off. just stunning!!!!! Shot on a Nikon D700 with 17-35mm Lens, Cokin ND4 soft grad, Raw files with Active D-Lighting on High.

I tried this shot a few years ago (2005). I couldn’t get it to work as I was just learning what I was doing. It came out massively overexposed and I never really bothered doing much with it. This came out exactly how I planned. I did take a few shots, but that was more to catch the waves doing what I wanted! Canon Eos 5D, 17-40L at 20mm, f22, ISO50, 11 seconds. I used a 1.2ND with a 0.9 hard grad and a polariser. The last one wasn’t used to get the polarised effect, but as an additional ND filter to slow the exposure. The shot was taken about 10am when the light was getting harsh, hence all the filters.

We encourage active participation, so please take part in challenges and use the forums. However, although there is no artwork limit, please don’t upload all your works at once (they’ll get lost in the back pages of the group, so try and add it gradually), and also – please, no unrelated Journals!
Finally, the moderators reserve the right to remove any works we feel are unrelated without contacting the artist. Other than that, have fun!
