This horseback rider was concentrating so hard on the flag that I hit the trigger to capture his intensity. He was part of the Melbourne Cup parade on Monday. I shot a series of vertical frames showing his face clearly, but this – the only horizontal frame I shot – just captures the spirit of his task. There is a poignant touch to this image, because we were told that this small group of four or five riders were from the Victorian alpine town of Marysville. As any Aussie will tell you, Marysville was all but obliterated during the Black Saturday bushfires in February. I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 70-300mm lens. F5.6, 1/350, ISO 200, focal length 300mm. Featured by my co-host in ANYTHING WE WEAR, November 2009. Featured in YOUR COUNTRY’S BEST, November 2009. Featured in COWBOY/ COWGIRL ART, December 2009. 120-1004
New growth on ground burnt in February. Brock Spur, Kinglake National Park, Victoria. This is also my first attempt at HDR
The cathedral Range glows red late in the day as the fire ravished trees reflect the sun,s rays..
young ferns come back fast in the mist but these trees will take a lot longer,. Marysville.
Driving to KInglake on Saturday 20th September this scene caught my attention. The two trees are shown as silhouttes but they are a perfect example of how our natural landscape has regeneratd after the disatrous bushfires.
Today I visited the Victorian bushfire affected region from February 09, again. Much of the landscape has flourished from the late winter and early spring rain, but contrasts so vividly against the charred hills; a reminder of the past fires and of the dry summer still to come. This is a scene near Flowerdale, VIC. Photograph Details / Canon 40D / EF 24-105 L f4 / Focal length 47mm / ISO 100 / Aperture f/11 / Shutter 1/60 / Handheld / CPL filter
Sadly this area was effected by the black Saturday fires and you would not usually get this view as the trees and homes would block the view from the road. But they have all gone. Still an breathtaking view of green valleys and the rain clouds on the mountains. Hopefully people will be able to rebuild their homes and once more enjoy the breathtaking views.
Taken in burnt forest in Kinglake. Found an old car hiding in the trees. Would not have been able to see if before the fires, on a closer look we found a spider web who had made its home in the old rusted car. And the spider was at home when we called in to say hello.
My name is Tali, I am seven and I live in Kinglake. I got up early one morning and saw the sunrise. I took a photo of some daffodils growing in front of burnt trees. The daffodils looked like the shape of the corner of your eye.
