Topic: Need Help? Post Questions Here / Panorama's... how big??

ok, i’ve recently done a 9 shot stitched panorama The Southern City I have downsized it by about 60% of it’s original size so that it is a reasonable file size.

however, i just want to know what is the maximum size limit for uploading images to redbubble?? the full size version of this image is an 80Mb Jpeg. (350Mb RAW !!!)
and what is the maximum size that can be printed by redbubble??

Topic: Need Help? Post Questions Here /  1:1 scale?

Hi Tim,

For the tees, it’s 200dpi, which means 12×16” or approx 30×40cm.

For the posters, it’s the standard A0/A1/A2 sizing, but I’m not sure of the resolution (we scale the image to fit the paper anyway) so the best way is to start with a photoshop canvas for the target paper size (eg A1) at 300dpi, and that will mean you get a perfect (or as close as possible) A1 poster at 1:1.

Topic: Need Help? Post Questions Here /  1:1 scale?

Hello all!

Can anyone tell me the final print area and resolution (in CM or MM and Dpi) of the Tshirt template? ...And the final print res of the posters?

I want to print some designs at 1;1 scale eg a pencil and ruler the exact size of a pencil and ruler.

Any help with this info would be great.

Cheers -T!M

Topic: Need Help? Post Questions Here / Tshirt template printable size/area?

Thank you, I understand what you mean.

I suppose to be more specific if my design included an image with discreet measurement in it, like a picture of a ruler and I’d like it to be actual size in the final print, that is 1cm = 1cm output, how can I do that?

Gerbils stamp by ChicaSombra

This design uses up the printable area. This is how much of the shirt you can print on if you fill the template. The printable area stays the same on all sizes and styles. So if you buy an XS sized shirt the image will cover most of the front, while if you buy an XXXL shirt, the design will appear a bit smaller.

Size Small

Size XXXL

Topic: Need Help? Post Questions Here / Tshirt template printable size/area?

Hi, I’m new and I have looked for the answer to this question, but if its already answered elsewhere, sorry for the repeat.

The Tshirt Template is 2400×3200 px @ 72ppi which is roughly 84×112 cm… (opened in PS CS3)

What I’d like to know (for the positioning and size of my designs within the template) is what is the final output print resolution and size RB use? 300dpi, 150dpi? How big is the physical output size of the template on shirts?

Actually I’d sort of like to know this for all of the different media. (helps with sizing type for different purposes).

Thanks -T!M

Ahh the code you use here at RB is a little different to HTML!

webgrrl came up with a handy dandy code cheat sheet that should answer your question.

Topic: Need Help? Post Questions Here / Re: writing

Is there only the one group for writing?
Is there a place to join, or do we just jump in.
Do we find a photo group and post writing appropriate to the group there? [if they allow]
Are there more than one writing group…ie, by subject, length etc..
thanks

Topic: Need Help? Post Questions Here / Question: Copyright and Private Designs

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I’ve done a lot of research on copyright on my own, so I wasn’t very optimistic about being able to get it done professionally, but I wanted to check and see what the site’s policies were. Personally, I am not half so concerned about doing it on my own and getting in trouble for it- I just didn’t want to bring anyone else, RedBubble or the printers or whomever, into what would be my decision to do this or not. I’m a stickler about protecting intellectual and moral rights, since as an artist you have to be, but I also personally see doing this as just my personal, artistic show of respect for the man and his body art + something cute and sexy to wear. I value the protection of copyright set in place by the government and I respect the man and his artist too much to ever try to profit off of it, but I’ll probably make a shirt on my own. I’ll think about it. Doing the vectorized version, then learning how to silk screen myself, then probably botching it, I’ll be lucky if it turns out recognizable, anyway, haha.

@Gracey- I can’t ask him, it’s a musician in a foreign band who I’ll likely never get to talk to or meet, and who probably wouldn’t understand me if I did. ;)

There are photos that are out of copyright that you can use for that purpose. When do the copyrights expire is then the question. I did find a list on the net of well known images that are now out of copyright and I didn’t bookmark it – sorry. I did just now find this link but haven’t had time to browse-

Thankyou so much Paul! It’s now working beautifully!
I was having a problem at first because I was using the new Blogger slideshow….it wouldn’t seem to take the code, I just kept getting their pics instead.
Then I did it your way….and it worked but I had both up there!
Now I’ve got it right…..thanks again.

Thanks for this Paul. Just got back from dinner myself. :o) I probably should have said that I downloaded the rb template and worked from that. I opened the template in paintnet, got rid of the writing and then imported my images over the top, so I’m not really sure why they didn’t end up with the exact dimensions. But I couldn’t figure out how to make the background of my own images transparent, though as I said before my images are abstracts with little or no negative space so I figured it wouldn’t matter if they weren’t transparent.

—I was just thinking that this would be easier to follow with picture reference, but that would take a bit longer and I haven’t had dinner yet.

Let me know how you go, I’ll be happy to spend some time making a proper tutorial with pictures and everything… it’ll just take a bit of time.

Okay, basic step by step.

1. Create a new file
– file > new…

2. In the box that pops up enter:
– width: 2400
– height: 3200

The rest of the fields can be left alone. Click OK.

3. In the bottom right, there should be a toolbox called ‘layers’. In that toolbox there will be a layer called ‘background’. The background layer is not transparent, in fact, it is filled with white. So if you printed it on a t-shirt you’d have a white box. Not good if you’ve got a blue shirt obviously, and still bad if you’ve got a white shirt, because you’d just be printing white onto white.

4. To make a new layer, click the first button in the ‘layers’ toolbox. It looks like a couple of pages with a plus sign on them.

This new layer actually will be transparent. It is completely clear.

5. You should now delete the default ‘background’ layer. Do this by selecting the layer in the toolbox, and then clicking the second button, which looks like an X.

6. Now you should have a single transparent layer in your document. It will actually look like a checkerboard, but this just means it is transparent.

7. Now you can either draw your design directly onto the layer, or if you’ve already got a design, import it (probably by copying and pasting) into the document.

If you paste it in, it might paste it into a completely new layer but don’t worry about that – it doesn’t matter how many layers you’ve got. They’ll just pile on top of each other.

8. If your imported design isn’t already transparent, you may have to erase the background. There are many ways to go about this depending on what kind of design it is. For instance, it is a square shaped design (meant to be in a box), then you can just select it with a marquee to separate it from it’s background. But if your design is more complex you might have to spend a bit of time using the erase tool.

Just keep in mind that anything that shows up on screen as a checkerboard is transparent, and won’t print anything.

9. Once you’ve finished your design, you can save it to PNG and any layers you’ve created will merge, leave all the ‘save configuration’ options to their default, and it should save just fine.

- That should result in a usable file. One thing though, when you are uploading your file to red bubble, you have to make sure that you click all the appropriate boxes about default colours (you need to choose at least one colour shirt, and select which of those to use as the default), you should also make sure you choose the style and all that… you can change these settings later, but I’ve found that if you don’t select one of them, it won’t let you upload at all.
