Why not try a group critique forum?

Photography 101: Photo Help Desk
PhotoShop Help Group: PhotoShop Help Forms
Technical Photography: Critique Forum
The Art of 3D: Critique
Photography Critique and Advice: Critiques
Web Design: For Critique
Paintings: Painters in Modern Times forum.

Tips For Using the Critique Forum Effectively

  1. Ask people to critique one image at a time. Trying to critique a whole portfolio is very time consuming and it’s hard to give constructive feedback.
  2. Post the image in the forum rather than linking back to your portfolio. When potential customers are looking through your portfolio, they can read the comments- do you really want to advertise the weaknesses of your work?
  3. Ask specific questions about your work. Rather than just saying “what do you think of this?” ask something specific like “How do you think I should crop this?”
  4. Expect all types of feedback including negative feedback. This forum is for people who want the cold hard truth. (not to say that postive feedback isn’t welcome)

And remember There is an EDIT POST option under your name if you stuff it up so you can go back and fix it- woo hoo!

Is it possible titles can state whether people want an image critiqued or a piece of writing.

I wouldn’t be able to give technical advice on images, but I may be able to help with written pieces. Only thing is, I can’t tell which from which.

Larry Davis, I am an older environmental engineering consultant and not too savey within this micro-computer-box world? I don’t think I posted my 1 photo to critique from my public profile right?

I would like advice from you photo experts. What is the grey?
I used a HPE327 digital canera set on “auto”; as I need to take photo evidence on a moment’s notice.
Around dusk, I was un-winding and simply taking scenery shots of an Oregon (USA) campground. I remember clearly taking this photo of the campground sign; but I was totally alone and no one around me. Reviewing photo later that night at home, I seen the grey added image?

Larry, I have taken photos for decades; but I never have had a image show up later I did not see while shooting a photo!
I do not believe in ghosts; but I can not explain this un-seen image peering into my lens when taking the photo. I can assure you the grey was not swamp gas or methane; as there were no swamps or wetlands nearby? is it an optical flaw or what? No other digital photo from this camera showed this flaw?
I did f ind out later there are graves in vicinity?
What could cause this to appear without me seeing it first?

Some of the other members might have some idea. ie: Neil Boucher. Joe O’Brien. I am sorry that I can’t come up with anything.

Neil Boucher Neil Boucher 58 posts

Sorry I can’t realy assist. The image is too small to get a good look at it.
There are probably 100 possible explanations, such as lens flare, or a smudge on the lens, or file corruption, but I doubt if anyone could come up with a difinative answer.

While I am not a total sceptic regarding supernatural phenomenon, I have seen enough evidence to know that cameras do lie, and the captured image can be inluenced by so many things that ghosties would probably be the last in my list of explanations.

By the way this probably isn’t the right spot for asking this question, but as you are “not too savey…” we can forgive you this time, can’t we Jo?

Of course, you all are correct and I apologize. Like Neil, I am amazed by nature and the dramatic capture power of a camera lens and what you foks do with computers to create amazing photo art here.
I am humbled. I can’t even figure put how to enlarge my photos on a computer!

This one photo “playful spirit” above amazes me; but I can not explain it.

Imagine shooting a maniken and finding someone later was standing behind the stage prop? Any curious ‘community member” can ask for the original .JPG and I will email it to them; so they can enlarge it.

Frankly, I wipe my lens before every shoot. Here in Oregon, this is a must due to rain.

I was just trying to take advantage of the wonderful talent here -within; as you obviously have more photo expertise than I. i just took one photo I can’t explain?

Sorry for the intrusion. You all have simply amazing talent and I’ll simply learn. Dave Sandersfeld

Why do I keep getting these frigging little crosses?

Jo O'Brien Jo O'Brien Administrator 3181 posts

It’s usually because you are using the page URL instead of the image URL
The other one that does it is if you haven’t copied the whole URL (sometimes it goes for a few lines and gets hidden)

Pardon my ignorance but:

How do I post an image in the forum without posting it in my public gallery?

Thanks,.

Mark German Mark German 4446 posts

Clarkey, you must host it elsewhere (like Photobucket for example).
The, paste the direct link in the forum, bracketed by a !

! directlinkofimage ! (no spaces)
