Posted this same challenge in a JE yesterday, but it seems my friends just aren’t in the mood to play this time, so on advice, I decided to see how it might fare here. Seems Jo also has a special interest in the matter, so thought perhaps all of you good people here might like to help her out.

I’ll start this off with my own 8 choices to get the ball rolling, and share with you what moves me right now and why.

All images are clickable and will lead to the artist. Don’t yet know how to make an image a link ? you will find some easy instructions here.

My Home Page – I though this little exercise would be long and hard, after all, there are so many images here at RB that move me for various reasons, yet I found myself drawn to the same images again and again. Currently I find myself really drawn to the abstract genre. The pieces that make the most impact usually, (not always as you’ll notice), consist of bold lines, a strong emphasis on geometrical shapes and are usually a solid, (not mandatory), but always vibrant colour/s. I rarely do abstract work myself but can’t seem to resist a great abstract piece right now. I think my choices says a lot about where I’m at at the moment. I don’t want or need more ‘distractions’ or clutter in my life right now, is this reflected in the fact that I am currently gravitating toward more simple, geometric and linear forms in art, and suggesting perhaps I am looking for more ‘order’ in my own space?

There is so much going on and to be concerned about right now in the world, so I wondered, because the art we are drawn to is not static, and prone to change like our taste in music might be, how it also reflects our current state of mind? Considering the state of things right now, and the idea that I have never really been attracted to abstract art before, I wondered if there was a correlation?... and was interested in hearing others feelings on the idea.

EDIT added Mon 20th Oct –
Good to see other’s are taking up the cause! You can view more HP selections here and here

OK so that’s 9 images not 8 but I can’t put 4×2 neatly in the forums so opted for a 3×3 layout instead as it looks tidier. Hey I’m a fussy artist. and aesthetics are important :)

Marion Cullen Marion Cullen 510 posts

That’s one very interesting spread Martin, especially The Elk Hunk .

For aesthetic purposes, lets say everyone gets to pick a spare.
Oh and would you care to share how you stacked your selection so neatly? I did try but with no luck, I must be missing something. It’s T-eeing me off seeing my selection all random.

Just type 3 url’s in exclamation marks with a space between the closing and opening exclamation.

Then hit ENTER

Then type 3 more url’s in exclamation marks and hit enter again

Then do it again.

Just make sure to leave a space between the closing ! and opening ! of the next horizontally aligned image and only hit RETURN or ENTER when you want a new line.

(EDIT. Sorry I typed quotation marks, I meant exclamation marks. I’ve changed it to avoid confusion)

Marion Cullen Marion Cullen 510 posts

Ok tried this, didn’t work. Got a little confused re exclamation marks and/or quotation marks

I think I know how to stack image links (as in my PF), but these are not linked to a destination url.
Might help if me, and others not in the know, if you could demonstrate it on the links below, (without the No spaces), if you would be so kind Martin?

I am in a dandelion mood right now, so here are a few of my favourite dandelion images:

Martin Kirkwood Martin Kirkwood 3054 posts

Sorry I typed quotation marks by mistake it should have read exclamation marks.

The first URL should start and end with a ! then leave a space and type another ! and the next URL ending with another !

eg …......image-name.jpg! !http://redbubble…............

Do this 3 times then hit enter to start a new row of images. Or just edit your posting at the top by removing the carriage returns to place the images on the same row instead of underneath each other. Make sure to leave a space between two adjacent URL’s as above.

Ooh la la Adrianna, some killer heels right there…
And for sure you can do more than one, nothing stopping you gal…so go for it!

When I do a feature page for a group I host I like theme and I like to include different types of art in that theme if the group accepts more than one medium ie. digital, straight photo, drawing/painting. I like the colors/tones to flow and I like to choose people who are not always shown and of course some who are out of control popular…MIX IT UP BUT MAKE IT LOOK GOOD!

Marion Cullen Marion Cullen 510 posts

Wow Natalie, that colour scheme rocks…what a great selection!

Linaji, thanks for sharing a little about how you chose your HP and why. Great stuff!

Some suggestions for homepage features: An all Canadian page, an all US page, an all North American page, an all British page, a landscape page, a page selected by the last artists featured, How about letting a member a month win it as a challenge and feature who they want, how about a never featured before artists page, how about letting some hosts feature newcomers or people that have never been featured before…

Marion Cullen Marion Cullen 510 posts

Some really great ideas Joanne, I do believe we have had HP’s that have features Canada and the US, not sure about the UK.
I especially like your idea of offering a Home Page selection as a challenge win prize, what a great incentive!

I’d maybe pick 8 HDR images for the homepage….so many to choose from, but these are some shots that continue to inspire me and as do the photographers that took them. Well done Marion for beginning this thread.

Marion Cullen Marion Cullen 510 posts

Wow! That is a vibrant and very eyecatching selection Elana. I’m a big fan of HDR and you sure picked some great artwork here.
