Hey there people, I thought this would be an interesting place to see what people thought or if you guys could give me your input – being a creative community.

I’m in London and my g/f seriously misses her dog more than anything else – she’s from Scotland and works with me in London. We can’t/don’t want to get a dog here due to not being able to give it enough time as we both work 9-5.

Soooo I want to do something special for her – mainly she misses her dog and that lifestyle of calmness as she is from a small town and literally grew up on a field and now in crazy London!

Sooo anyone have any ideas? We havn’t been going out for long but I was thinking about taking her to maybe The Botanical Gardens in Kew – it’s a massive garden complex within London

Or maybe some sort of…friendly…dog shelter or a nice place to go…maybe a Safari Park..

You catch the drift? Somewhere “natural” near/in London or if animals are there then even better.

Or maybe even a unique gift -

She just really misses her dog so that is what I’m trying to remind her of to make her happy.

Also in London Zoo, you can pay some bucks to do a Sanctury Adoption of a given species and if you do so , you can then get a private tour of that species in the Zoo, to feed them etc which I thought would be cool – she loves animals

Any ideas? Thank you!

Oh what a sweetie you are!!!! Definately do something where she has the opportunity to interact with some kind of animal – preferably furry animals as opposed to bugs or birds. I love the last idea you had!! That would be soooo cool!!

Yea’ that seems like a pretty good one and you can choose from a bunch of different animals from Squirrel Monkeys to Penguines to Lions…I’ll ask her before hand indirectly, “What is your fave. animal from this list” So I know but I’m guessing the Monkey one will be best coz it should be fun as in they will let us touch/play with them maybe

Check it out – http://www.zsl.org/shop/london-zoo-adoptions/

I just want to do something different/unique coz she is really cool and she totally misses her dog and the lifestlye of back home…while I’m a city boy so I don’t totally understand it

Mudchute City Farm on the Isle of Dogs is the ideal place to go. All sorts of farm animal, horses, llamas, pigs, sheep etc, and its free and only a short journey from Central London. I can personally recommend it.

Get a fish aquarium!

I’d give x-rated ideas but these forums are open to all. ;-)

Hey Martin, I checked out the site and it actually looks alright. Easy to get to also considering I’m in Greenwich.

Do you get to interact with the animals there?

I’ve only recently moved to Greenwich, what are those dock areas like? I always go past them…

The docks are well worth visiting, Surrey Quays in particular, which is close to you. Surrey Quays has a lot of boats, mostly residential, there’s a floating pub and Chinese restaurant. A friend of mine is learning to sail there.

I think you can interact with the animals at certain times of day. Check with the website. You could also try Maryon Wilson Park in Charlton which is also close to you. You can definitely interact with the animals there. I used to work nearby, and loved going to see the animals in my lunch break.

The bit of Surrey Quays with the boats is South Dock Marina.

I wonder if, you can just go sailing or something…even if you don’t have experience. Like I’ve been been on a sailing boat before – do you think you can do to South Dock Marina and get someone to take you sailing or something or for some sort of “ride”...I’ve never asked or seen anything about it

My friend is blind, and it’s a combined blind and sighted learning group that he belongs to. I don’t think they have rides round the dock, it’s really small, but you can get on the ferry at Greenwich Pier and go up to London, or down river to see the Thames Barrier. There’s a whole lot happening round Greenwich, clubs, gigs etc, although I’m a bit old for that now. My son lives near Surrey Quays and loves it. His band Sherka played local pubs until they broke up a couple of months back. Hopefully he’ll be playing live locally again soon.

Well get a photograph of her dog [digital] and invite people to make some atrwork for her – I will gladly do a photomontage for you and send you the file [no charge] – that may be nice for her.

Umar Salman Umar Salman 105 posts

That is a pretty cool idea Julie – what is a photomontage again? Like all little pics put together to make one big one?

Julie Langford Julie Langford Host 2481 posts

This is probably one of my best photomontage projects here

Will be glad to do one for you to give to your girlfriend if you want ok

Just found a link for sailing at Greenland Dock, includes the club my friend belongs to.

Thanks Martin – will take a look at it

So basically Julie, what was the original picture? You took a picture of the model and blended her into a woodland/fairytale type of background feel? Very pretty

The model is our very own kranmer from Redbubble, who sent me a photograph of herself in the right pose. The rest of the scene is made up of 6 other images.

I don’t know about your shelters there in UK, nor do I know if you and your gal like to excercise. But here in Richmond my wife and I volunteer our time after work and on some weekends a few times a month to go the local SPCA and either take dogs for a jog or a walk (they have programs devoted to both). It is a great doggie fix and believe me the pups are so appreciative!
