The Case Of The Disappearing Images - solved
Be careful of what you delete. I made the mistake of removing hidden images from my Art pages, not realising they would also disappear from the Journals they were uploaded for. Doh! All good at the end of the day – revitalised affect tutorials with new and better sample images. :) |
The Orton Effect has four images that I see. How many are missing? I haven’t look further yet. |
When I open the tutorial all of the images are gone. |
All the images seem to be there for me… in every tutorial! :-) |
Most of the images are missing for me… (using both firefox and IE). |
I think it is caused by the changes to the image links. For example: http://images-1.redbubble.net/img/art/size:large/view:main/4252850-2-untitled.jpg It is strange though as I have very old journal’s (currently hidden) with links that automatically redirect to the new image links. |

thanks Shane for that effort! Still waiting for a response from RB – any response from RB!!!!!! – I’m damned if they can’t rectify the broken links. |
Rb have replied. I’m screwed. the images gone had been deleted and are no longer cached. |
What?? Deleted by who?? That is such a shame Peter, especially after all your effort. Maybe you should start a blog with your tutorials? (or have you done this already?) |
Deleted totally from your profile or just deleted from the ‘old’ link? |
Do you still have the tutorial images stored on your computer Peter ? |
Plenty of them show up using the right (new) code

Thanks Jo. I’m a bit confused now because Paul (RB) bmailed and said “I performed a spot check and found that every image I looked at was a deleted image. This would explain the broken images. While a deleted image might end up in the cache for a while, it will eventually expire and be removed.” I took that to mean all the images were gone forever. I had since then decided to become a member of RB under a different profile purely for the purpose of uploading (and hiding) all images to be re-used in my tutorials, as a means of quarantining them from my actual 14 pages of artwork to manage. However, from what you and Shane are saying, it appears if I go to Edit and tweak the relevant URLs for each missing image, they will be restored. Can you please clarify that given what Paul said? If its just a case of revising the URLs for the new server, can you point me to the naming protocol to follow? Cheers |

Could be that Shane and I come up with images that are deleted but are still in RB’s cache and thus visible for the moment. Not sure if they were uploaded to your Peter Hill or your other account but that doesn’t matter much. The main question is: you uploaded these images and probably have hidden them. When you go in either profile can you still see these images in your Art section? If no I wonder how these got deleted. If yes (you can still see them in your profile) they are not showing up in your Tutorials due to the fact the links need to be redone/checked. For example your rose shot in the raw tutorial uses this link at the moment http://images-1.redbubble.net/img/art/size:larg... When checking the link to the rose image "at this page ":http://www.redbubble.com/people/peterh111/art/... you will notice the network path to the image itself has changed to http://ih0.redbubble.net/work.2813707.3.flat,55... RB changed their naming for the image servers and also the notation for the image format. Instructions on notation for the new image format can be found in Dan Moore’s Creating Links Etc…on redbubble under the heading ‘Using Just the Image’. Hope this helps. |

I lost a lot of Images…….and no recovery..and no record of them. |
I’m on IE and I can’t see a lot of your images – little red “x” s instead. That sucks Peter! |
Dang, I just checked and I’m missing images from a tutorial/journal also. |
Me too Jan – pages of them from old tutorials, the urls seem to have changed – also broken links to other demos…:-( |
Front End Loader? |
Can you explain what that means Ben? – the only front end loader I know about is the one that fits on the front of my tractor. |
I think that’s what he means Kafka. Just trash them all. That’s what I did with mine. They were old anyway. So I dumped them. |

The opening post seems to have been changed. This text was added (when comparing with the Google cache): ‘I am about to hide those tutorials and start again with the image samples. This will take some time to repair. The problem, as confirmed by RB, is that the images need to be retained, not deleted once uploaded as they do not remain in the cache forever. It’s good to know that, now.’ |
@ Everyone. Changing the URL of samples to the new protocol only worked for some images not all. This means I still had to re-upload. I took the silver lining and came up with brand new samples, revised and expanded the affected tutorials, and took better and more snapshots of the PE workflow. I have renewed all but one of the affected tutorials over the weekend and I am happy with the results. The moral of the story is don’t delete hidden tutorial materials after publishing the tutorial! The currently unaffected tutorials are going to go the same way when the cache is cleared out again, so I am going to need to be proactive and amend all the URLs. Thanks for all the helpful advice. |

great job peter and good on you for hanging in there – cheers |
