Had I not entered Mac world, that review alone would have burnt a new hole in my credit card

I’ve ordered the odd Dell thingy in my time. Their delivery times, and post sales support are always fantastic. I’m not a fan of all the proprietary nonsense they jam into their PCs and Laptops, but for monitors, you can’t go wrong

As Adrian says, Dell make fantastic (well, they badge) monitors, and their propriety PCs are horrible (for someone like me).

True but most TFT panels are built by four large consortia (the multiple billion price tag for fabrication plants mean that this tends to be the most economical method of production). I always had a quiet laugh to myself when people have extoled the unique virtues of Apple cinema displays with them not knowing that they use LG-Phillips panels. The 2408 I believe uses a Samsung sourced panel.

Most of Dell’s desktop PC’s are built down to a corporate price (like a lot of their tier one competitors) but their precision workstations are quite good.

I have a dell connected to my imac. I had previously used it with my intel mac. I would never get rid of it. I can’t go past how many things I can connect to it, VGA, DVI, RCA, composite, S, Flash card, SD, you name it, it has it.

I do find that the mac displays (whatever brand of LCD screen they may be) have much better colour to the Dell. The gradients are much smoother. But it can be hit and miss with the apple displays. I work on 2×24″ apple displays at work, both of them calibrated and they still differ slightly to each other.

Dell rocks for the price.

Great review, John. I was recently at an Audio Visual trade show that had a new NEC monitor on display that was designed for medical use. It boasted a resolution of 2650 × 1600. /drool It’s of course a 30" monitor but man the images on this thing were incredible. I’ll be holding out to purchase something along those lines.
