TIP: Important information about watermarks (locked)

We understand how important copyright is to all artists (we’re all artists outselves) and have put a lot of effort and thought into this issue.

Thus, the images which people can take from the site are actually low resolution images that can’t be copied and reproduced in large formats (they may look large but you could not produce a reasonable sized print from them). The large files you upload into your portfolio are kept secure on our servers and only used to print orders for your artwork.

As a further layer of protection, you can activate a copyright watermark that will be displayed on the large versions of your images. The watermark can be activated at mybubble->account->edit your profile.

We have been questioned as why we don’t use larger watermarks. The answer is that we tried them and they dramatically, negatively impacted sales. Purchasers will not part with their dollars when the images look terrible.

Supporting copyright is an essential principle at RedBubble and forms the backbone of our User Agreement.

There is a full discussion of this topic at http://www.redbubble.com/forums/9/topics/2020?page=2.

I would note that the images displayed on RedBubble are much lower resolution than any image you may see in a magazine or display on the wall of a gallery (and could capture with any digital SLR camera).
