Topic: Learning Center / Google search results

I found it helpful to use a keyword generating website like http://www.mykeyworder.com/. You can just put in a phrase that is a description of your work, for example, “Yellow Rose” and it will show you a long list of words that would work as keywords for it. You select or de-select from the list as needed and then export them. I tend to run it several times to get a good list of words I’m happy with, and add a few if needed.

Then, be sure to sort them around to put priority to some words at the top of the list found by the search engines.

Don’t forget to add the media you are using and your name.

You will also find you work shows up on a search when you have more material on-line for it to find. The more work you have, keeping the quality good, the better the odds of your work showing up in a search.

I hope that helps.

Topic: Learning Center / Mug Preview Looks Squished

I’m not enjoying the mug preview either. In fact, it’s putting me off adding my designs to them because of how weird they look. It doesn’t look too bad on patterns but ones where I have the same image central on both sides are way off. It’s as if the design hasn’t stretched all the way around the mug. Things are off to the left on the default view and not where they should be.

I hope they tweak it a bit because, in my opinion, it’s not doing any of our designs justice.

Hi is it possible to have a supplier for cushions in Australia? Currently it is taking about 5 weeks or so for cushions to arrive from USA. I wish I had the patience!

Would be great if they could be posted from Australia to cut down on shipping time as I am a huge fan and buyer!

TIA

Topic: Learning Center / Google search results

How long have you had stuff listed? Google can take a few weeks to completely index, so even if you have the best, most thorough list of tags, it can sometimes take a little bit

Some things you can do to help : share your stuff out using the “share” feature on the product page. Share it out on Facebook, twitter and g+, tumblr if you have one and if you feel comfortable doing so, pinterest.

When people click on those links and visit your profile it helps strengthen your google fu because it’s a link to the product that someone followed. This can sometimes help you get indexed a little faster, or show a little higher in search results

Keep in mind that if you have a lot of commonly used tags on your stuff, it will take a LOT of leg work and sharing and promotion for you to rank high on those keyword searches.

Also: You really need to get more tags on there, keep them relevant to the product, but three or four general terms that sort of describe parts of your image are not enough.

For instance “Waterfall” has
yorkshire dales, waterfall, river, nature, woods

as tags, and while these ARE relevant, they are barely descriptive, any one of these words searched in google will return PAGES and PAGES of results you’ll never rise to the front few pages with these tags

Consider adding the following descriptors when possible (ADD don’t replace, the ones you have are fine, just you need to get MORE detail in there)
more exact place (does the waterfall have a name? I bet you can find out!)
season and time of day
surrounding foliage (there’s trees yes? add that, and if you can find out, add the type of tree, the brush, the grasses, the type of stone)
the fact that it’s a photograph, what sort of photograph (digital? film? SLR?)
colors
a feeling you associate with the work
your name!!!
and then get into some “pretend google is a blind person and describe it!” ones in there
like clear water,stream,river,creek,mud,stones,cliff face, bushes,branches,trunks,daytime,sky

The more descriptive you can get with your tags the better.

Imagine a customer searching for a print like that, they aren’t going to find you searching the tags you have on there now.

Pretend you are on google looking for what you are selling, how would YOU google that product. remember people don’t know you exist they are searching google hoping to find the item they are looking for, tags are how you tell google that they should suggest you to people searching for this list of terms.

For instance on the rose you have
rose, popart, black and purple

consider adding “hot pink” “Magenta” “cerise” “neon pink” and taking off purple, (because it isn’t actually showing as purple and if you meant it to be purple you may want to do some editing) but, meantime, you are missing out any searches for hot pink and similar descriptors.

also in addition to pop art add “funky” “negative space” “80’s” (it has a very 80’s vibe, and people search that stuff all the time since it’s retro vintage now) use rose AND flower, bloom, bud.petals, floral, plant, nature…

Think of the person who might want to buy this and then tag it so that person’s google search terms will bring up your work. Keep them relevant but get detailed and descriptive!

I think they recommend at least 10 but not more than 50 (everything over ten will only help on site searches, I believe, so the make the first ten the strongest descriptors cause those are the ones google will really lean on.) I would suggest aiming for between 15-25 and stack them so the ones most likely to be used in a search to find you are up front.

sorry I got distracted mid thought, I was trying to point out that you can set all the prices in one go from there. when you enter the mark up into the first box it will have a little thing that says “Apply to all” that comes up under the price box, click that and it will apply that mark up to all the slots then use the

" Apply these markups to all my existing work" check box at the bottom.

I ended up having to deal with a cat emergency (well to the cat it was, but not really. Box rescue) and sort of hit the post button without checking to make sure I’d finished my thought, sorry.

I think it’s supposed to be fake roundness, but it doesn’t look right to me either. I think they have the design “curved” more than it would be on a mug so it’s tricking the eye into seeing it squished and elongated.

Topic: Learning Center / Mug Preview Looks Squished

I was careful to use the image size recommended for my digital file, but when I upload it, the design looks really squeezed, as if it’s taller than it should be (in other words, it’s as if the uploader is stretching my art to fit vertically/or squeezing it to fit horizontally). The instructions for mugs has a preview that doesnt look squished at all.

I’m not even sure that’s happening, until I can order a test mug, but the preview looks like the art is squeezed. Is this just the result of the mock up and it’s fake roundness? I’m not sure what to do. Anyone having similar issues?

Hi!
Thank you for you advices…

I don’t have a lot of works to show yet, but I will work on it and make some others and when I’ll have enough, I will can manage my portfolio and create categories etc…
And even if I don’t sell anything, no matter… I mean , it would be cool if I can make some money with Redubble, but If I can’t, it doesn’t matter! It’s already great to show my art and still have some views, so…

Because of you I understand a little better the process of RedBubble and I know that I would never sell a lot of works because I’m not “social” enough! Mainly when I must promote my work in english!!
Well, I’ll try to do my best!

Thanks again ;-)

See you

Topic: Learning Center / PNGs requested but at 72dpi?

You’ll gain nothing in terms of quality by changing the ppi of an image from 72 to 300 or any other figure for that matter, as I said the overall pixel dimensions of the image are what determines its quality…there’s more to image quality than that of course, but the image ppi alone has no effect on quality.

Yes, you can upload different image versions for different products and they will all be accessible to potential buyers from the same product page. There is some grouping of the products such as T-Shirts and Stickers are together so you would use the same image for both, likewise the iPhones and Samsung phones are together. It’s much better than the old system though because you can now (for instance) upload a transparent .png for a T-Shirt and use the same image with a background added for a phone case and they will still be together on the same product page. Initially you’ll upload the same image to all the product types, but you can change images for some products as you go – so upload the one which you expect to use for most of the products first.
Hopefully at some point we’ll not need to upload the initial image to every product, it’s a bit of an annoyance when you’re just looking to make a single product, the new system has a number of advantages over the old one though.

Hope this helps.

Topic: Learning Center / Redbubble deducted money from my account

kim, edit your post and remove your email address. You need to contact support (the link is at the bottom of the page) and your financial institution to dispute the charge to your account. This forum is for tips and tricks for the designers using the site to sell art, and we can’t really help you since we do not work directly for redbubble or your bank. and the customer service people do not come in here very often, so you really need to contact them at the link below.

Although, redbubble won’t be able to do much either, since your bank needs to put a stop payment on the transaction before redbubble can refund the money. Until they hear officially from your bank that the charge is fraudulent, they have to assume it was legitimate (basically how do they know you are who you say you are and not just messing with the person who made a real order? Only the bank can tell them that.)

So contact your bank and the contact us link below for redbubble. But first take your email address out of this post, this is a publically accessible forum and every spammer bot trolling for emails to spam is going to be able to get it fromt his.

The overall pixel dimensions are the important part, the dpi will be set when it comes to printing. Also, 2400×3200 was the required size before the new product creation set-up was introduced. Now you can upload a large image and size and position it as you like, so there’s much more flexibility than before.

I’ve just up loaded my first pieces following the instructions for t-shirt designing (2400×3200 pixels at 72dpi) I’ve never printed anything at that low a res before. Will it look all right? I’m not convinced and feel like I should re-upload at a higher res, say 300dpi. Does anyone have experience with print quality at that res or a tip for me. Thanks in advance!

This is the link I used to find the details for the standard, tall and travel mugs. http://support.redbubble.com/kb/creating-art-de...

Thanks for the responses ifourdezign and Steve. Appreciated.

It appears that it is only the standard mug that reveals itself on my portfolio at present. If it is because this is the only mug made available for sale at the moment, then there needs to be some kind of information relayed to those, like me and others, who may be frustrated by not being able to show off the great designs being created for all three mugs, including the large or the travel ones.

I’ll have a look at the link to the blog. Thank you…

Topic: Learning Center / Blurry Images Made On iPhone... Better Way To Make Typography For Stickers?

I created some designs (all typography) on my iPhone using an app and when I uploaded them to Redbubble, the quality is very bad/blurry/pixel-y and the images are very small. I am assuming that my work will only be sold as stickers, but I am afraid that they will be very blurry when printed.

Can anyone suggest a better way to create typography? Or help with clearing up images on Photoshop? I have no experience with Photoshop other than trying out some tutorials I found online.

i swear this is so freaking frustrating, i’m gonna look up the clipping path thing to see if i find a solution, thanks.

I don’t know your level of experience in Photoshop, but you could do two things – create a clipping path around your artwork to help tidy up your work, or go to the refine edges option to help knock back what appears to be a hidden white area.

Have you created the artwork yourself in a vector package? Or is it a rasterized image from another source. A png file should eliminate any white in your image and make it transparent. But a Jpeg will show the white

You do – the problem is the option is hidden – just upload your work as you would normally to a tee shirt,

Hope that helps
