Any Published Author's Here?

Has anyone from here had anything published? Whether it be an article in a newspaper/magazine/enzine, self published title or full on book. Just curious to see if some have and their experiences.

I’ve got one story under a publisher’s belt; everything still tentative. And the closet thing I’ve got to publication is the Unleashed Short Story comp. Got to the finals and no where else. Still, planning and dreaming.

had a nerdy article published in a social science journal when i was uni, but i guess you’re asking about fiction? had a short story in an e-zine earlier this year. g

ot two stories going to be published in an up-and-coming anthology at another place i hang out with writers, but that’s a self-publishing thing, like lulu and something we (the members there) have organised ourselves, for ourselves.

I reckon it would be cool for a bunch of writers here to do a self-publishing thing here through a site like lulu. We still own the IP for our stories. we couldn’t put redbubble’s name against it because they own that, but we think of some trippy theme and get people to write stuff and contribute original art. On the other site I mentioned, we’ve got a talented artist who is doing a picture for each winning story in the various fiction challenges we’ve had there.

I’ve had several pieces published in zines over the years, as far afield as The Netherlands, Canada, the US and of course Australia – often in grungy little zines sold at punk gigs. Sure felt good to see my name in print though!

Since then I’ve also had my work accepted by ezines, with one piece now being considered for a book in the US. Also recently had a story published in The Age.

Although I always struggle with issues of privacy, there is something amazing about seeing your words out there, and I’m getting braver with each success. Kseriphyn, congratulations on having a story at a publishers – even ‘tentative’ is a call for champagne!!

i’ve had about 6 pieces published in the Positive Words magazine from Gippsland – details are in another topic in this writer’s forum. My writing group last year published an anthology – I’ve got 3 pieces in that.
Also last year I had about 4 poems published in my church newsletter – nothing big, but I feel success with all of them, and one day hope the ‘big one’ will strike!
With my work at the local school, a couple of pieces will be included in the class anthology, which I’m really excited about – considering the fact that I’ve just started there.

I’ve had various bits and pieces. A short story published in the Geelong Advertiser some years back; 4-5 short stories in competition anthologies, various cinquain, limericks, epigrams etc in competition anthologies, a 5 minute fiction in That’s Life (a tough gig to get and only ever managed that one, but it paid well), and three self-published anthologies of short stories. I promised myself years back I’d do one a year for 10 years since I got myself a decade’s worth of ISBNs but only managed it for the first three years – lost heart a bit at the promotion end of things and have a couple of boxes of books sitting under my desk.

Had a short piece and pic published in the June/July 2007 edition of Australian Traveller magazine. ‘48 Hours In…Hervey Bay’.

Here’s the link. Australian Traveller

Originally submitted a 1600 word piece that was rejected. Was requested to severely cut the piece and present it again. First time published.

Wow. Great to see everyone living the dream :0). I’ve been lucky enough to score a small stepping stone. Really excited about that.

Hey Khylan – I think your stepping stone is a really really big deal and definitely something to get excited about. Well done! Keep us up to date about how that pans out for you (and fingers crossed too).

3 continents, 4 countries… radio, zines, ebook coming, book coming, podcast coming, and Unleashed counts as print.

Really inspiring to hear all these publication stories. How did you self publish Anne? – and then how did you promote the books? Writing is such a hard area to take on the establishment – but the rewards I’ve heard for self publishers who’ve put some work into marketing can certainly make it worthwhile.

I’ve had 4 children’s books published. 16,500 sold so far! I am a full time copywriter but I was the illustrator on these books just for a change.

Wow Melinda. Where they penned under your name? Love to see the illustrations they’d look fab I’m sure. Damien was pitching his illustrations for a publisher. Not sure if he is now.

Oops just realised it said Published authors sorry. Yep it is under my name. I did c0-write so I guess it’s relevent! I have also had a photo ‘roadtrip’ with words as well in Desktop magazine and have been interviewed for Photo Review Australia. And I’ve written thousands of ads!!! (My apologies for that!)

That’s the evil plan! Actually the series is called Tipper the Nipper. About a border collie who dreams of becoming a junior surf lifesaver. Which he becomes. He then has adventures with Charles Dicken the Air Rescue Chicken, Gruff the old sea dog MacDuff and Marracca and Carracca crabs. There is a huge Tipper suit which I will be in (career highlight) at the Gasworks Book Festival Sunday week. Kids learn about water and beach safety from the books as well. I can put some of the illustrations on my site I guess?? Books are only $4.50 each so maybe I should mention them there as well!!

Love your illustrations Melinda – would be great to see some of them on RB. We need more happy illustrations.

Hi kseriphyn – no I’m not new to the Bubble, but don’t get to spend nearly enough time in the forums.

OMG! I think my niece is reading this in her school. She mentioned something about a tipper. Her dog is a border collie so she was really into it.

Unreal, really? Cool. Any chance you can find out?

kseriphyn kseriphyn 1190 posts

Yeah. I’ll check and let you know.

PS: My hubby baby sits her and my daughter after school, so she does her homework at our place. I’m not sure if it’s one of her library books actually.

Update…
I’ve checked and it wasn’t a book she was reading in class by one she hired from Erina library. Have you lodged this book with CAL? I think they have a facility where if someone hires out the book from the library, you get some sort of funds. CAL assists with that.

Yep we get some lending rights each year. Thanks! Kinda cool to know someone’s reading it!
