Sugarloaf Lighthouse at Seal Rocks, NSW Australia. I took this shot a couple of years ago before I understood the value of megapixels. I intend to visit the area again and do a better job next time. Meanwhile, please don’t shoot me.
My favourite place in Port Stephens is Shoal Bay Beach. I have so many memories there, such as family holidays when I was young and my Grandparents came to visit from the UK, and years later visiting there with my Mum and Sister and her children. We would play in the water, relax on the sand, and watch the sunset at the end of the day. / This photo was taken a few years ago now, but is one of my favourite sunsets over the beach. / Taken with the Fuji S5000.

Australian genus Actinotus. This one growing in the Tilligerry Penninsula Conservation Area. Beautiful Flannel Flowers have been gracing the roadside near my place for several weeks now. Finally I decide to stop and get a few shots…the council mower beat me to it today; they were there on my way out and gone on my way home. The 3km stretch of flowers is no more; just a couple of hundred metres remain! Still, managed to get a few pics and have just applied a range of treatments. Facts / Flannel Flower; belonging to the carrot family (carrots!...amazing, I learn something everday). A short-lived perennial, grows in full sun or semi-shade, flowers between late September and early December. Petals are velvety to touch – gorgeous!
On my recent trip to Booti Booti National Park in Pacific Palms on the Mid North Coast, I came across this onld volley ball net about 50 meters offshore in Wallis Lake. Not sure if it is still in use but I’m sure it would be lots of fun :) Canon 450D SLR Images merged in Photomatix to create a HDR. / Post editing in photoshop CS3
If you don’t recognize the significance of the title, then you’re too young to remember the song, Paddlin’ Madeline Home. These days, people catch a taxi. The romance is gone. What’s romantic about a bloody taxi? Paddling is cool. Anyway, I love the boat. So there. Seal Rocks, NSW Australia. And I don’t remember what camera I used. Actually it’s a wonder I remember anything at all.

On the shores of the Great Lakes, NSW Australia, is this church known as the Green Cathedral. You can see the pews, altar and pulpit, all made of natural materials, and surrounded by tall palms. That’s it. No roof, no windows, no walls. Not even a door! I was there a few years ago on a Sunday. There were flower petals strewn on the ground from a wedding the day before. As I’ve explained previously, back then I was unaware of the value of megapixels, so this image is low resolution. One day, I’ll revisit the church for a second shoot.
I recently won a photo competition with this image run by the manufacturers of the world’s best echolocation call recording systems for microchiropteran bats, AnaBat. This photo was taken as we released some bats captured in traps to record these echolocation calls during a bat survey near Smith’s Lake (Seal Rocks) on the NSW mid-north coast earlier this year. The image is best ‘Viewed Larger’. Steve is the Principal Ecologist at EnviroKey, a specialist ecological consultancy that undertakes surveys, research and education programs across Australia.
