A couple of pelicans had a school of whitebait balled up against the rocks and were taking turns lunging in and scooping up a beak full of fish and water. After draining out the water they would tilt their head back and swallow the fish. I was lucky enough to catch this one mid gulp. This shot is best viewed large. You can see the fear in the whitebait’s eyes as they stare down at their impending doom. / canon 40d
Some dunes may be extremly big, like hills. This particular is more than 20 m high. Some are good for sand-boarding. This image was taken among the sand dunes of Birubi Beach in the Port Stephens area of NSW (mid north coast) some time ago. I felt the treatment give this either a prehistoric, or futuristic, feeling!! Landscapes Trees Cards EOD Rusty Flowers Architecture Macro CatchAll DM

Sieve-Patterned Moray (Gymnothorax cribroris), Fly Point, Port Stephens, New South Wales. Fly Point in Nelson Bay on Port Stephens, New South Wales, is part of the Fly Point/Halifax Park Aquatic Reserve and totally protected from fishing and other extractive activities. Due to strong tidal currents it can only be dived on a slack tide, but then it is well worthwhile. The colourful sponges and incredible diversity of marine life make it one of the best dives in NSW – and it’s accessible from shore! Stockton Bight, Port Staphens NSW, Australia / The biggest moving sand dunes in southern hemisphere. This dune looks so soft, so welcoming and at the same time it has strict form and direction. For me it looks like a frozen wave, leading you forward… to the clouds. Currently 289 views. Their castle is blurry and fuzzy, it changes shapes and location, it is alive, it whispers and whistles – it is their home. Stockton Bight, Port Stephens, Australia Featured in: / Your Magic PLACE / Just Pure Nature / The Ashes – Australia vs England
Over regulation…Tony Middleton has put up an excellent link to two of Ken Duncan’s articles...
Tony Middleton has put up an excellent link to two of Ken Duncan’s articles on the frustrations (and so-called legal stands) relating to photographing publicly in Australia – particularly in The Outback. Excellent reading … I love Ken’s comment saying in essence we have more freedom to take photos in Communist China than we do in our beautiful country. And let ME add, as for photographers being a potential terrorist threat, when will bureaucrats realise it is GUNS that shoot to kill, not cameras! / It is excellent to know professionals like Ken are putting their weight behind the issue in higher places.
Well, I have taken all the precautions I could, ie, tick the clear image of photo box to discourage save as well as put the watermark across the centre of my image, BUT…............I still have had a photo stolen! Elena Harris on Flickr has decided she liked THIS IMAGE so much that she thought she would claim it as her own I have reported her to Flickr as well as Yahoo IP/Copyright, and left a comment on her image, but I am at a bit of a loss as to what to do? I guess that she has taken a screen print, converted it to a jpg through software such as Adobe to be able to upload it on her profile, but the quality appears quite good. I thank Tai Finlay for alerting me to this. It would seem that while ever we put our images on the internet, there is the possibility that they will be stolen!
Trees like this one grow right on the water’s edge on Smith’s Lake, part of the Myall Lakes National Park.
Where from is this tree in a desert? Brought by a wind? By humans? Maybe its there for years or even hundreds? / Who knows what has it seen…. Stockton Bight, Port Stephens, Australia Nikon D80, Nikkor 12-24 Featured in: / Collage and Landscape Photography
