Topic: General Discussions / Picasa Help

Is she trying to open Picasa or photoshop? I have Picasa too and photoshop CS3. But I never open with Picasa. I load all of my pictures into photoshop Bridge. and I work with them in Bridge which will open into photoshop. I myself would not go through Picasa to open. But that is just my preference. There is a help forum for Picasa. Go to the help button at the top of Picasa and you will see where you can click on it. Maybe you can get some help there.

I don`t know if any of this helps you George.

Hi ini,

Does Elements have skew and distort tools ?

I already have CS3, so I’d let BC have it :-)

Lolololol Braincandy – will certainly keep a lookout for two copies of CS3 – however Alison may want to fight you for it lolololol.

yes Alison – already finding some limitations in Elements – for instance can’t seem to straighten one vertical – can straighten all verticals but that throws the other verticals out ………ah well – still having fun and it is way above my expertise level so a good place to start.

thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions.

If you can get a cheap CS2 – buy it, if you have lots of money, buy two copies of CS3 extended, and if you only need one, I’ll use the spare.

LMAO :-)

For most users elements is just fine.
6 had some interface changes from the previous version.
There are some features (I am told) in elements which are not available in the full PS – web galleries, catalog etc.

And one more thing, Photoshop is VERY expensive!

If you can get a cheap CS2 – buy it, if you have lots of money, buy two copies of CS3 extended, and if you only need one, I’ll use the spare.

Carol
Thanks so much for your detailed feedback – have checked out the article – will check out the other.
I have Elements 6 which must be latest version – got it included at no extra charge – so think I will work with it for a while and see how I go with it.
Alison – thnaks for the idea of searching – will go looking and see what I can find – there is actually a lot of information in the programme itself which I am only just beginning to explore.
Really wanted to know if I was wasting my time with Elements and now I think not – worthwhile checking out.

P.S. Also found the following very specific information on
http://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/photoshop/f/el...:

Some of the features in Photoshop CS2 that are not included in Photoshop Elements 5 are:

  • CMYK and LAB color modes
  • More tools and features that work with high-bit (16-bit and 32-bit) images
  • Combine multiple exposures to create high dynamic range (HDR) images
  • Channels Palette
  • Recording custom Actions (for batch processing)
  • Adjustments: Color Balance, Match Color
  • Layer Masks, Layer Comps, and Quick Mask mode
  • Smart Objects, Smart Guides
  • Lens Blur Filter
  • Vanishing Point Tool
  • Pen tool and paths palette
  • Some adjustment layers (curves, color balance, selective color, channel mixer)
  • Editing History Log
  • Text on a path, advanced text formatting
  • Advanced Layer Style manipulation
  • Advanced Color Management
  • Advanced Web features and ImageReady (rollovers, slicing)
  • Customizable tool presets, keyboard shortcuts, and menus
  • In the features and tools that are shared, the Photoshop version usually offers more advanced options for fine tuning and control.

Although these features are not natively supported in Photoshop Elements, some of them can be simulated through other tools in Elements (layer masks and quick mask, for example), and some are actually there, but hidden and only accessible through actions created in the full version of Photoshop.

Cheers,
Carol

I just looked up the web for information on Photoshop versus Photoshop Elements because I’ve had this question in my mind too.
See “http://www.graphic-design.com/Photoshop/vs_elem...; for the low-down.

Hi Ini,

I’ve never used Elements so I don’t really know what is in the box.

Loads of people use Elements. I would suggest searching the net for free video tutorials etc.,

Hope someone can help me.
I am fairly new to photoediting software and have attended one series of classes about photoshop. So had decided that was what I was going to buy.
When I got my new computer I was given Photoshop Elements 6 with the computer.
Now I am really confused as I don’t know how to use it.
Am wondering – do you think I should go ahead and purchase Photoshop or is Elements fine to use. What is in Photoshop that is not in Elements?
Given that I now have Elements am I better off just going with that and then maybe moving to Photoshop later.
Please help I am really confused.

Ps here also, I have PSP X2 that I use for a couple of little things. I also use Light Room for few things also. So, I guess you could say I am a little eclectic in my software.

I’m a Photoshopper too.
I’ve never actually used Lightroom, but I have tried PSP and didn’t get on with it, also Gimp which is pretty much Ps, but sadly doesn’t have some of the smaller features and things that provide those little shortcuts so I found it to be a pain more than anything.

I mainly work with layers so it’s definitely Photoshop for me.

Yep, it doesn’t have dodge and burn, channels and a few other things. I’m not sure what features are in programs like Elements, PSP or even some of the free ones like GIMP, but it depends what you want to do with an image etc., and having another, cheaper, program might come in useful. A lot of people baulk at PS because of the price tag, but Lightroom isn’t all that cheap either.

Thanks,
I managed to work the journal out somehow.
I expected the “new” to be on the group’s journal page…

I’m asking about the software because I don’t do too much of layer work at all (apart from work) and I am finding Lightroom absolutely brilliant.
Fast, non-destructive, just a creative flowwww…….

On the other hand Aperture (MAC only) despite the fact that it comes straight from Apple, seems a bit cumbersome.

Hi BrainCandy,

I’m a Photoshopper. I have Lightroom but it lacks a few of the tools that I am used to and doesn’t quite stand up against Camera Raw either. But, each to their own, and Lightroom does have some nifty little features.

Just write out your journal entry and there will be some other things to fill out below, like tags, the groups you want to submit it to etc., Just highlight Photoshop Help and if it makes the grade they will post it.

Hi gang,
Is it Photoshop, Lightroom or Aperture that keeps your cogs oiled? And why?

Myself, Lightroom – it feels like a darkroom ;-)

And yes, I know PS has layers etc. but just for adjusments, what do you like?

Also, I am very new to here, and I can’t work out how to post a journal in the group…
