9×12 pastel on Sennelier la carte paper FEATURED IN PAINTED LADIES, PETS AND PEOPLE, FIRST THINGS, FEMININE INTENT, AND THE DIVINE FEMININE I had so much fun drawing Barbara, but it is a lot of work trying to do portraits. I needed to do something completely from my imagination. And of course I can’t call it Blackbird without linking to the song!
A quick sketch in 2B graphite pencil on cartridge paper of a young Crabbet Arabian I saw showing in hand recently. This drawing was completed in preparation for my first attempt at a grisaille oil painting; having not worked in black and white since school I thought I had better have a play about before I put paint to canvas!

San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize, pen and pencil on paper, 2008 my uncle’s parrot, much more laid back than the other one, i used a little bit of pencil as an outline and then erased most of it after i put the ink.
graphite on watercolor paper 2008 I made this drawing in homage to my favorite rapper, The Notorious B.I.G. who sometimes went by the alias Frank White, which was the name of a character played by Christopher Walkin in one of my favorite movies, King of New York. I originally was gonna put ink over it, but I liked the outline too much so I left it unfinished. at the time when i made this i was listening mostly to two songs from Notorious B.I.G., from the album Ready To Die, one was that song where he goes “i live fo tha funk, i die fo tha funk” and the other one was “who shot ya” where in the instrumental you here a female voice saying “as long as you live and breathe…. another day…. another day…”

My last watercolor. I am trying to go more towards an imaginative style with realistic portraits these days, I am trying to avoid the comment I get sometimes which is that it will be difficult to sell a portrait if people are not related to the subject. / Anyway portraiture is what I like to do best. / I used some gouache in the background, the paper is hot press Arches 140 lb. And I used my layering technique where colors are mixed on the paper, you can see step by step demonstrations on my website: here
From a photograph taken several years ago….. part of a family out for a Sunday stroll….. one grey February day… I thought their sunny smiles deserved a sunny warm setting Watercolour on Bristol board/paper 5.5×11”
I transported these young ladies, photographed at a local festival, into a more rural setting…....and tried to recapture the feeling of being a child when we could still legally pick Bluebells from the woods and safely ride down country lanes on bicycles Watercolour on Paper app 9×12
Shiro Nekko, Japanese for White Cat Oil on canvas. / 12” x 16” While staying in Fuji Guesthouse in Noborito (just outside of Tokyo), Japan, I often saw this white cat who lived next door in an old Japanese style house. One day I saw the cat sitting comfortably in his/her owner’s bicycle basket..maybe the cat wanted to go for a ride into town.. I took a few photos, and from these images created this painting.. which was my first attempt at completing an oil painting.
I have been working on this woodcut over the holidays. I recently hand coloured it in. I can download the print in itself for you to see the difference. This was printed on my own press this week. Coloured with ink. 860 Views on 27/11/09 Belinda Nye, BillyLee, Billy,

Another self portrait in watercolors and mixed media on paper (Arches cold press 300 lb). I added some watercolor crayons drawings on top of the figure once it was dry, and I used acrylics in the background.
Medium: Pastel / Support: Hanhemhule velour pastel paper / Size: 48cm x 46 cm This is Pip. He was commisioned for his “owner’s” birthday by her daughter with specific instructions to capture him ‘warts and all’! / He’s got very quirky ears and they love him all the more for it. / It wasn’t really an easy portrait to capture because the main reference photograph has been sepia toned and Pip is a burmese blue! Luckily I have a British Blue so the colouring is identical except for the eyes (Brit Blue eyes are Amber coloured). / Anyway, my client is very happy with the outcome.
