this portrait of me was photographed by my friend & photographer Shohaja Staffler who now lives in Paris.
A simple gesture encapsulating the very basic desire of us all….the need for existence, for food, for shelter, for the friendship of our fellow humans….sadly ignored in many aspects of life.

Holy Mantras on Mani stones near to the Vajra Guru or Padmasambhava’s (Guru Rinpoche) sacred cave in Tso Pema (Rewalsar), India / Mani stones are stone plates, rocks or pebbles inscribed, usually, with mantra, as a form of prayer in Tibetan Buddhism. Mani stones are intentionally placed along the roadsides and rivers or placed together to form mounds or cairns as an offering to spirits of place… The mantra OM MANI PADME HUNG / -OM represents the body of all Buddhas; / -MANI means ‘jewel’; / -PADME, means “lotus”; / -HUNG represents the mind of all Buddhas; MANI refers to the jewel that Chenrezig holds in his two central hands and PADME to the lotus he holds in his second left hand. Saying MANI PADME names Chenrezig through his attributes: “the one who holds the jewel and the lotus.” “Chenrezig” or “Jewel Lotus” are two names for the same deity. / When we recite this mantra we are in fact continually repeating the name of Chenrezig. In itself this exercise may look strange. ...this mantra is invested by the grace and power of the mind of Chenrezig who himself gathers the grace and compassion of all the Buddhas and bodhisattvas. ... the mantra is endowed with the capacity to purify our mind from the veils that obscure it. The mantra opens the mind to love and compassion and leads it toward awakening. / http://www.amitabhahospice.org.nz/public/spiritual_support/compassion.php

Brighter than sunshine / That’s what you are to me. / Cuter than a ladybug / That’s how you look to me. Softer than the silky fox / When I touch your hair. / Lighter than dandelion fur / Your heart so sweet and fair. Brighter than sunshine / Your smile lights up the day. / Deep black pools of tenderness / I see your eyes this way. Brighter than sunshine / My sweetness never fear, / You’ll be my best friend forever, / I will always love you dear. a rhonda original© Something fun started in Apophysis, worked up in PSP and finished in PS with parts of a stock image from “stock.exchange:”http://www.sxc.hu. Gazing, / The valley sleeps / Afternoon creeping, / Languid landscape, / A breeze only now and then / God sweeping an a resting hand / Beyond reach of mere man / Cloistered houses / Protect the town / Like women huddled / Round a wedding gown / Whispered lace, veiled frowns / Each house, shutters its own / Can any see me here alone / Pausing man upon some rock / Passing by, merely looked / Hanging sky and stormy looked / Naught paid, nothing gained / And I paced on my way again / Down the hill, down the path / Making the afternoon last / The breeze, a lass’s kiss / A butterfly and time’s near miss It may not pass this way again, so the proverb goes, its author bemoaning a priceless moment lost to saudade, a piece of nostalgia, wrapped in melancholy, like yesterday’s lunch, so delicious the first time, a moment not lost and of whatever it was, the girl’s lips on a steamy afternoon, or watching your daughter take her first bicycle trip without the assistant hand. It may not pass this way again. The torment of your soul for walking way when staying was the penultimate celebration of life. Do you? Did you? The passage of time does not the wound heal, uninflected though it may be, the pinprick, the irritating sting of loss, because you never traveled that path to begin with. What might have been, Saudade with a lemon twist, drowned in the tears of, as it were, it can never be. Tasted, sweet, like cane sugar, sucked from the syrup of the stalk, the child’s heaven in simple pleasure, housed in a disposable container! The after taste, “as sweet as the cup”, as sung by the 60’s pop group, Association, speaking of the never ending theme, the exquisite reminder that chances passed by, may not pass again. Nostalgia is not always sweet. Manha de Carnaval, the song of letting one’s soul loose to experience life as you and I thought it might be, if not constrained by convention. Whether convention is a product of frowning social dispositions or the memory of a hand slapped by mother’s ruler. No wonder the child wished for raw, wide open wild freedom. Still, the soul paces, as if reconsidering the chess move’s alternate, whereas, the chess piece never passed on its intent to the one who carelessly moved into danger, the piece when it cost the game, and luckily, nothing else! The soul paces, weighing, however lightly, the moment, Often risk is its own reward. Butterfly kisses upon the full lips of life. Stay, yet, a while. I shall make it worth thy effort. “Would you?” Saudade, the perfect word for the uneasy nostalgia of the human frame for longing….
