3,000 Image Cap? Have your say!

PiMT seems to be growing and this is a wonderful thing. We now have well over 900 members and over 165 pages of artwork to browse through.
This bring me to an issue I would like to bring up with the members.
As we quickly approach 3,000 images we as hosts are wondering if 3,000 pieces of art in the gallery is enough. What would happen is that all the older artworks would basically drop off the gallery as the number surpasses 3,000.
This means that older members may be more inclined to enter different work, keeping the group fresher and on a personal note it would limit the number of images I have to look through when featuring works, a mammoth task at times!
However as we are just the facilitators of the group and it is you, our wonderful members how make the group so great, therefore we will not do anything till you have had your say!!

Ah – a true modern democracy.
We have our say and then it gets done anyway………………
Just joking – a good idea

As the current 202 members of my own RPG, for the most part, can’t seem to observe the rule that asks them to “Please limit submissions to one painting per calendar month.” I have to sort through approximately 30 pages of supernumerary images at the beginning of each calendar month, plus a handwritten list that, as of today, exceeds 100 artists’ names each time a new image appears for moderation, I can certainly sympathize with your problem!

However, I won’t venture an opinion as to the 3,000 image cap, because it won’t affect me personally; I have the habit of changing the 5 images that I’m allowed to have at PiMT quite frequently already.

i think it’s a good idea… but i also agree with carson and some responsibility should be upon the artists to keep their submissions fresh. What is the point of having image 2998 in a group? Would it ever get looked at?

let them drop off ….. butchart is quite right, who keeps looking that far back?!?!? :>)

I think it’s a great idea, since i would be checking for old images anyway to remove them after a time………………drop away!

i don’t know if there is a way to archive old images but yes do what will be most effective. Iti s such a great group and your organization has made it so, follow your intuition.

yeah go for it:) then we don’t have to go back and remove works ourselves when we want to add new ones!

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

My personal feeling is to cap it too. Members will always be able to resubmit works if they fall off the end of hundreds of pages and it will help with rotation and keeping things fresh and new.

To those of us, who like to create art hard the hard way (rather than press button) and also view other paintings or drawings, I’d like to see the 5 limit increased.

As this site is absolutely swamped by photos – and only a few have the wow factor.
And there is rarely a limit on the photo groups – that’s why they outnumber painting so much. I’d guess only 10% of images are created from nothing, with a lot of effort and a pencil or brush!

Regarding the 3000 cap, we can always resubmit again, to get a fresh audience for our forgotten works.

Thanks Colin we love to hear this kind of feedback. I will certainly bring it up with the other hosts and if anybody else has an opinion on this I would love to hear what they think about raising the limit.
