There are millions of pictures of world-famous Spirit Island, at the upper end of Maligne Lake, Jasper National Park, Alberta,Canada. I always try to find a different angle, if possible, and I liked the way the mountains provided a backdrop to the stand of trees on the end of the island. This is actually just a small sandspit with trees on it, the actual island is a lot bigger but we didn’t have time to do much exploring. The peaks are one of many ridges of the Rocky Mountains. And the elusive sunlight gave me a short break! Jasper N.P. is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Iceland – the big blue …
This is a shot of the Dutch Harbor Spit that I took while steaming out for another trip this summer. I capturted this off of the commercial fishing vessel that I work aboard out of Dutch Harbor, Alaska.

Taken at the top end of Coniston Water in the Lake District after a storm. The lake was flooded at the top end as was a lot of Cumbria that week after heavy rain fell for several days on frozen hills. And yet the fragile strength of the reeds survived. I am not sure if I have loaded up this before but Sandra and I were gong through the auroras files last night for the new web site she is building for me and this one kept jumping out at us ..taken last winter with a Nikon D200
This impressive castle sits on a basalt outcrop overlooking the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne on the heritage coast in North Northumberland. This is exactly how it was, this image has not been manipulated or had saturation added, in fact the reverse, I actually desaturated it by about 25%. Taken with a Canon 50D, Sigma 10-20 lens at 10mm, F22, shutter speed 1/4 second, ISO100, processed in Photoshop We decided to go to the excellent farmers market at Hoghton Tower on Sunday, the market is on every third Sunday in the month. My beloved persuaded me we had to go so off we went, unfortunately the farmers et al had a different day down than my girlfriend for the third Sunday of the month….lol…I thought it was quiet on the way there!!! This is a shot I took afterwards down at Hoghton Bottoms. Please view large!
At the base of the Falls, the Athabaska River has carved out a deep, narrow gorge which can be reached by climbing down 59 steps that wind through layers of rock formations, and then carefully getting around some corners to be able to see into the gorge. The problem is a constant atmosphere of heavy mist, so you have to wait for a gust of wind to come along and clear things up a bit. Have the camera ready and under cover until the right moment, as it doesn’t last long! And don’t fall in, because nobody has survived so far! / Athabaska Falls is in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada, in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. / Sept. 5, 2009, Fuji S100FS camera /
A small section of the Canadian Rocky Mountains overlooking Lake Maligne in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. The vast forest slopes slowly blend into the rock and stone of the mountains, with remnants of snow-pack still holding fast in the shadowy areas, even in September. Somenos Marsh, Cowichan valley, Vancouver Island. / After several days, there was a brief pause in the unrelenting rain. The marsh had been more flooded than this, and the water was already receding a little. More rain today! / / Tone-mapped in photomatix from three Jpeg images. Best viewed larger. Taken in the Scottish Highlands, this image looks back towards Rannoch Moor from Glencoe. Canon EOS 400D. / 18-80mm / AP mode. / CS3 to complete.
Taken with a Canon 50D, Sigma 10-20 lens at 10mm, F11, shutter speed 0.3 second, ISO320, processed in Photoshop I took this shot a few weeks ago and loved the composition and colours but it just did not work. I was told a while back that the orton effect really enhances shots with trees in them, a quick mooch on You Tube and 5 minutes later I had produced this which is sort of what I wanted…I think!! lol!! You have to experiment sometimes!!! Please view large
