My Wife’s grandpa (or Goong Goong in Chinese) at one of his many great grandchildrens birthdays…I was taking photos of the kids playing and came up the stairs and as he often is he just stands and watches them through the window with this deep joy…I aimed the camera at him and he looked at me and was totally unperturbed…He just had this look of total peace and dignity which I can only think is the fruits of a long and fulfilling life. An experiment of soughts… I had my D90 on a tripod in the cabing that my wife and I stayed in on our recent honeymoon, in Cradle Mountain Tasmania. I didn’t realise until I looked back on the shots that I had taken two photos without moving the camera ont he tripod. One with us in the chairs, the other leaning in to kiss. With the help of Adobe elements I layered the shots to get the finished product. My wife and I really like the shot (combining of shots) but I’d be interested to hear what others think. We were kinda obsessed witht he hotel robes during the trip, so it holds fun memories for us. Nikon D90 (w/18-55mm lens) / First shot: A 2 sec exposure at around F11 I think (sitting in the chairs) / Second shot: Shot with flash, about 1/60 at F11 / The second shot was superimposed as a ‘luminosity’ layer at about 45% opacity in photoshop. This layer also had the high pass filter at about 45 pixels I think.

Another test shot of high ISO capabilities. / And I still can’t get a decent focus!! But it is done ad hoc on the fly without any planning so I will allow myself a little leeway. / I did get some sensor burn that I have cropped out but I did use a different lens this time. More testing coming. / Still out of focus, still has noise but I did a test print and the quality at A4 was acceptable. Could this be Sydney? It is. Taken from the top of Gladesville Bridge in Sydney after a hot November day. Sydney is a city with many faces and as the humidity and heat starts picking up towards summer we start getting these amazing skies as the sun heads down. Straight from camera except for square crop. No-one alive now knew the owner of this box. We know his name and who he was related to. These trinkets and medals were his possessions yet we know nothing about the kind of person he was. We can only summise some of his world from history books; you see he died one month after he was married in 1921 from war wounds sustained in WWI in 1915. He was one of the 10,000 who wasn’t counted in the numbers because he died later. His living legacy was an unborn child. Nikon D90, Nikon 60mm macro, tripod.
