This is a view from the top of Mt Morgan (next to Percival) There’s a ridge trail between these two and another mountain (Mt Webster) which overlooks the Lakes Region (Squam, Winnepesaukee, Winnesquam, Wickwas Lakes – Squam is the one nearest..). The views from up there were fantastic and the hike was challenging in places but quite fun! The guide book said the caves were treacherous…. they weren’t kidding! lol! As is, Untouched from the camera ( Taken on July 19th, 2009 in Holderness, NH. What a day that was! I’m still smiling! ... first up in a powered parachute then climbing 2 mountains…wheew! Camera: Canon PowerShot SX10 IS / Shutter Speed 1/501 sec. / Lens Aperture F/5 / Focal Length 8mm / F-Number F/5 / Exposure Time 1/500 sec. / ISO speed ISO-80 / Metering Mode Center Weighted Average / Exposure comp 0 step
Proud Winner of the Wet Country Roads & Rain Challenge in the group Country Roads/Around the World Dirt roads are a common sight here in New Hampshire. They each have a unique and interesting character about them. This shot was taken on a very rainy day and I was attracted to the contrast of the wet sand against the dark tree trunks and green of the surrounding woods. Photographed May 21, 2008 during a leisurely drive around the area of Francestown and New Boston, NH. I neglected to make note of its exact location or its name and, unfortunately, I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to find this road again since this shot was taken. Enjoy! Len / /

The beautiful colors of fall are sufacing more and more each day here in the Northeast and they are the subject of my first official foliage shot of the 2009 Fall season. This is a shot of some lily pads in the marshy waters adjaent to Lake Massabesic in Manchester, NH. where I went for a nature hike this past weekend. The trees that surround these waters are already adorning their glorious reds and golds and cast their beautiful colors on the water. Photographed Sept. 20, 2009. Enjoy! Comments always welcome. Taken at the 4000ft level of Mt Washington, part of the presidential range of the the White Mountain National Forest, New Hampshire USA on Saturday May 17th 2008. It was a beautiful day, but much colder at this level. The top additional 4000ft was closed to tourists due to weather conditions: ice and snow, but will open later in the season. All I could think of was John Denver’s song: Rocky Mountain High becaue that is exactly how I felt, exhilirated to be there. It is not the Rockies but the highest elevation I have been so far!

The White Mountains of New Hampshire were full of gorgeous color, breath taking waterfalls, and stunning vistas. A must see fro any New England traveler. Nikon D90/ Nikon 18/105mm VR /
The strong flow among the big boulders and evergreens made this one a special shot for me. Water is truely incredible and its role in Mother Nature always amazes me. White Mountain State Park, New Hampshire Nikon D90/ Nikon 18/105mm VR /
The Flume Gorge in Franconia State Park, New Hampshire is stunning in every aspect, from its 90 foot tall granite gorge walls, cascading waterfalls, and beautiful brooks. This is an example of its beauty. / Nikon D90 Nikon 18-105mm /
Located in the scenic Echo Lake State Park in New Hampshire. The cloud formations from the storm that had brought ligth snow to the region made for an incredible mix with the distant mountains. NIkon D90 October 13th 2009 /
Taken on Saturday May 17 2008 at the 4000ft level of Mt Washington, New Hampshire USA. Mt Washington is the highest peak in the Presidential range of the White Mountain National Forest. We experienced the Mt.Washington Auto Road, which is America’s oldest manmade attraction. It first opened in 1861. / It was explained that the trees at this altitude are buffeted by the wind and assume strange twisted positions.
Taken on the trail to “The Basin” on Friday October 3/08. Nikon D40, Nikkor 18-55mm lens. / The Basin is a naturally occuring granite bowl in the White Mountains range and is part of the Franconia Notch State Park, located in the heart of the popular White Mountain National Forest, New Hampshire USA / On this trail are cascades and waterfalls leading to The Basin, which is believed to have been eroded 15,000 years ago while the North American ice sheet was melting. The Basin has been smoothed by small stones and sand, whirled around by the Pemigewasset River. / I didn’t make it as far as The Basin this time (have been there in the past), because I was caught by surprise in an unexpected downpour. I quickly shoved my camera into the case and wrapped my sweater around it. Then looked for my friend Wanda who was nowhere to be found. She had made it all the way to The Basin ahead of me. I was lucky to find cover under the roof of an outhouse at the beginning of the trail. It rained and hailed for about 20 minutes. When my friend Wanda made it back, she was soaking wet. This is one of two shots I managed to get. ! Top Ten placement in the Sets of Two- / Green challenge, November 2008 / Top Ten in the Seasonalscapes Autumn- April 2009 challenge / Featured in the All Countries-Streams, Brooks, Creeks, Rivers, Ponds & Lakes group November 2008

This is a look from one of the ledges we have successfully blazed to (still working on the trail) that we go to repeatedly – it is true heaven up there with 10+ views… The leaves had died down now although there is still color. A chill is in the air which makes hiking quite a pleasure .. and no bugs! lol!
