The Challenge

The first in our new challenge layout catering for all aspects of nature for us nature lovers.

As you can see the title will start with the category which will make it easier for me when choosing what challenge to do next, I can see the challenges I have already run in this category.

For this challenge please add your images of ANTS.

Interesting Facts

> The name Ant derives from many different words with a meaning “the biter”.

> They estimate, that there is around 22,000 different species of Ant worldwide although only 12,000 have been classified.

> They are social insects that live in colonies with one or more queens.

> Colonies consist of female wingless workers.

> Males and new queens appear in late spring or summer emerging from their nests with wings.

> Many ants milk aphids for their honeydew in return they will protect the aphids from predators.

> They communicate using chemical signals called pheromones released from glands.

> Many animals can learn behaviours by imitation but ants may be the only group apart from mammals where interactive teaching has been observed.
