Nose Nose

This challenge closed over 3 years ago.

The Challenge

Another sensory organ, this time the nose and for most animals the nose is a highly sensitive one at that. We all know that the nose can be and is used as a breathing apparatus but for the rest of the non human noses out there its a tool for hunting, scavenging and sniffing out potential mates.

@ Noses are different in shape and size and where they are situated on the animal will depend on the function.

@ Birds have a poor sense of smell so small holes situated on top of the beak are used for breathing.

@ Fish have noses but they are not used for breathing and fish have a poor sense of smell.

@ The nose regulates the temperature of the air before reaching the lungs.

@ The nose can stop unwanted foreign bodies entering the body.

@ A wet nose in canines is used like a compass, cold air passing on a particular side of the nose along with scent tells the animal in which direction to go.

@ A nose can even be used for as a means of transporting water or picking things up with.

So on to the challenge, add your close-up images of ears or an ear of any wild creature with ears.
