We’ve covered our largest land mammal in the endangered series, its unfortunate that the largest sea mammal is also on the list too. The Whale or to be more specific, the Blue Whale is the largest mammal known to have ever existed at around 35m or 115ft in length which if standing tall would be the height of, say, a fully grown Horse Chestnut tree or a Red Oak or even the height of the Taj Mahal’s central dome (pretty big hey) and weighing in at 150 tonnes which is equal to approximately 50 Range Rovers (pretty heavy hey).
These Whales are also on the endangered list, this is due to over hunting, possible connections to humans use of sonar in our oceans, collisions with ships, bycatching (caught by mistake).
I have had a wonderful conversation with a new member of our group Gina Ruttle who knows a thing or two about Whales. Take the time to have a look at some of the articles she has wrote on RB Racing Blue Whales and Cooperative Bubblenetting definitely worth a read.
You can add images of any Whale you like, but please ensure it is a Whale and comes under the order – Cetacea.
