Trees Please

This challenge closed over 6 years ago.

The Challenge

So many shapes, sizes and colours trees don’t really get the recognition they deserve. There are around 20,000 different species of trees on earth and the largest area of trees is still the Amazon. In one year, an acre of trees can absorb as much carbon as is produced by a car driven up to 8700 miles. A forest/woodland is made up of around 35% of dead wood which is important to sustain woodland life.

What is a tree, well apart from what we can see a trunk, branches, leaves the obvious a tree has is also a little world all of its own. A tree provides food, water, shelter, warmth, protection, materials. We all know what a tree provides for us humans but did you know that a tree could have over 500 different species living on it, within it or under it, from birds, badgers, insects, spiders to fungi, lichens and mosses, the list is endless.

So give a thought the humble tree. Lets see those wonderful tree images either as a group or on their own, dead or alive they are still special.
