Triple Goddess Mandala by fullcirclemandalas
The Maiden, The Mother and The Crone From the original acrylic on 100cm x 100cm canvas. I started this mandala the week before one of my close girl friends was diagnosed with lung cancer and finished four months later – the week after she died. It was a hugely cathartic work and the three phases of the goddess reflect the changes in me over the years. I have been the warrior maiden; mothered my child and finally, have entered into the crone phase of my life… Bright Blessings to all:) all rights reserved mt2008

Rhiannon's Passion by FAIRIEWOMAN1
Watercolor on Board / We form a living bridge of time, connecting the previous century with the upcoming on, and are becoming the elders. Leave on this century’s shore any tattered, faded clothing sewn of worn out cares and sadness’, brittle anger, and festering resentment. Drape yourself in a flowing garment of new life, all gossamer dreams and flowing, tranquil thoughts. The stuff of star and comet exists at the center of every cell in your body. The blood flowing through your veins is remarkably similar to ocean water. We are spiritual beings who have forgotten our origins. Reclaim your birthright. / Text copyright Helena Nelson – Reed

Loss by WanderingSoulArt
The Loss describes the fact that we all lost something, then we feel so lonely. It can be something or someone that made of us what we are, that made that we felt alive. / But finally all those events that hurt us so much built us, make us stronger and give us something in addition, something that will make us special! We only notice that (for those who notice it) a very long time later… In this creation this loss is reprensentated by the snail’s cockle, like if before she was in it, this was on her back, just like when a snail leave it. / But look at her back, ya see what she got in return? Wings. / The tree branches on her head symbolize her thoughts, so deeply rooted in her mind that she cannot see the good days and hope that are coming to her! This represents our blocked thoughts, when we feel so bad that we cannot help from having dark and depressive thoughts. / She also has elvish ears, the magicks she cannot see yet! So this creation is for those who actually feel bad, who have felt bad, who will feel bad. NEW – 2008 Calendar is available HERE My gallery is Copyright © Wandering Soul. Boann: Transformation of a Goddess by doanart
This painting represents the transformation of the goddess Boann into the River Boyne. Boann’s husband was Nechtan, who was keeper of the sacred well Segais (the Well of Wisdom). Around the well grew nine magical hazel trees, from which grew magical crimson hazelnuts. The nuts fell into the well feeding the five colorful salmon that lived inside the well. Each salmon represented wisdom obtained through the five senses and had distinctive crimson spots on their bellies from eating the hazelnuts. All, but Nectan and his assistants, were forbidden to approach the well. This restriction irked Boann, and she decided one day to approach the well. To spite her husband, whom she believed greedily coveted the well, Boann approached the well counter clockwise. But what she didn’t know is that the well itself had specific conditions in which one could gaze into it. One must approach clockwise three times before looking straight and steadily into the well or one’s eyes would burst from the power of the wisdom contained within. Boann peered cautiously into the well, which caused the water to rise angrily and it took one of her eyes. Because she approached the well counter clockwise, she had further angered the waters and so the well erupted with a torrent. Boann fled from the rushing waters losing an arm and a leg before the angry waters reached the sea, leaving behind a 70 mile long river, now called the Boyne River. Having lost one eye, one arm, and one leg, Boann was transformed. She existed from that point on somewhere half in and half out of the physical world. She became the soul of the river, but also something much more powerful. For when she released the waters of Segais, she freed the salmon of knowledge into the world. Now humans had access to the wisdom reserved only for the gods. Anyone who ate the flesh of the salmon, instantly possessed the knowledge they contained. Boann then became the patron goddess of poetic and spiritual inspiration. Her influence bridges the gap in the wisdom of mind to allow the feminine nature in each of us to stream into our being. Her sacrifice represents the transformation of the self that is required for wisdom to enter. Her essence is present in all rivers. To call upon her, one must simply invoke her name while sitting next to a river and listen with a clear mind and an open soul. Her gift of wisdom will transform you. (Original Sold: 18×24, ink on canvas)

GLUTTONY by Charles Winslow
One of the Seven Deadly Sins derived from the Latin gluttire, meaning to gulp down or swallow, gluttony is the over-indulgence and over-consumption of anything to the point of waste. In the Christian religions, it is considered a sin because of the excessive desire for food, or its withholding from the needy. / Medieval church leaders took a more expansive view of gluttony, arguing that it could also include an obsessive anticipation of meals, and the constant eating of delicacies and excessively costly foods. He went so far as to prepare a list of six ways to commit gluttony, including: / Praepropere – eating too soon / Laute – eating too expensively / Nimis – eating too much / Ardenter – eating too eagerly / Studiose – eating too daintily / Forente – eating too fervently / Thank you for taking the time to view my image, commenting, and those who favorite it. Today starts the new group many of you have been waiting for, Graphic Editing 101. If you are interested in learning, or just want to share your skills, here is the place to do it. All are welcome! Now You See Me, Now You Don't by kimbaross

Hehaka Pejuta Wicasa by FAIRIEWOMAN1
Watercolor on watercolor board. / This painting is based on a tradtional Lakota society for men possessing deer medicine. To be honest I don’t know if it exists anymore, but the archetype and energy certainly does. There two kinds of deer medicine. One is positive, embodying the qualities of leadership, caring for one’s mate and protecting the community, knowing when to speak, when to hold one’s tongue. Then there’s the darker aspect . A person may be one or the other, but not both. This painting depicts the shadow aspect . Deer spirits in this tradition manifest as charismatic humans of both genders. Mortals possessing deer medicine exercise the sexual power over the opposite sex as deer during the rut. They speak and move silently, along the outskirts of camp and in lonely places. Here, a man possessing deer medicine is depicted without his handsome form. The rectangle over the heart is a window into the spirit realms, for he travels dimensions at will. Sometimes a deer spirit is cleverly disguised as a human right down to the feet, but the hoof prints left in soft earth betray his true form to those who know the signs. The slender strands connecting deer to the environment represent his connection with the land, the primal, and the animal. A deer spirit morphs into or out of the brush just like the wild animal. Small, stylized flowers in the background and landscape flow over his form symbolizing this ability to disappear into the land and shape shift. The tiny horizontal hourglass shapes are butterflies. I’ve portrayed them as depicted in old beadwork and ledger art., for butterfly is associated with deer and elk medicine. The mask – like visage is the way I envision a deer spirit to look beneath the pleasing mask he or she wears in the human world, I based it on gnarled tree stumps, roots, and the human skull. From his belt dangle the dried out shells of victims from whom he’s sucked the life energy, leaving them hollow. They gave him their hearts, and the deer spirit consumed them, leaving them heartbroken. He can do nothing else, for its his nature. In the background shadowy spirit deer leap across the land, reminding us of his powers and where they come from. The deer leaping from the main subject symbolizes the act of luring a potential victim away from the camp circle and into the unknown. The spider web spread across the deer spirit’s antlers is a metaphor for “mitakuye oyasin”, Lakota for “We are all Connected (or related)”. The shadow aspect of Deer and all other dark energies are part of life, just as Light is. The web also symbolizes his ability to snare and trap souls, and his close relationship to Iktomi (spider), the trickster. Don’t play games with deer spirits, for you’ll always lose….your mind. / Text and Image copyright Helena Nelson -Reed
