‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house / Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; / The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, / In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;’ - Just a note on the side: This photo is almost 40 years old - / / / / Laminated Print /

Mon Oncle Celestino. / Photo taken in Vancouver 1964. That’s the bus to Granville behind him. / I am adding this image here below, because in an insight this morning, I realized it shows my Uncle transformed as shaman into this glorious dancing bird (see the background further below) / / This shot is one of the more precious ones from my collection. His name means “heavenly”, but this giant still walks the Earth, tall and proud. A true survivor-turned-phoenix many times over in his fascinating journey. One of the greatest story-tellers I have ever heard, he tells the story how my Father saved his life when they were tiny little boys fleeing the soldiers. Through my life, my wonderful Uncle has taught me so much, has thrown me so many life-lines just when I needed them most. I remember my first meeting with my larger than life Uncle about four years after this shot was taken, I was 7. He taught me how to dance. We haven’t stopped dancing since. This was the song that was “our song” back then. Oh yes, I’m the great pretender / Pretending I’m doing well / My need is such / I pretend too much / I’m lonely but no one can tell Oh yes, I’m the great pretender / Adrift in a world of my own / I play the game but to my real shame / You’ve left me to dream all alone Too real is this feeling of make-believe / Too real when I feel what my heart can’t conceal Oh yes, I’m the great pretender / Just laughing and gay like a clown / I seem to be what I’m not you see / I’m wearing my heart like a crown Too real when i feel what my heart can’t conceal Oh yes, I’m the great pretender / Just laughing and gay like a clown / I seem to be what I’m not you see / I’m wearing my heart like a crown / Pretending that you’re… / Pretending that you’re still around. / ...The Platters “The Great Pretender” / Featured in THE FAMILY ALBUM Sept 2009.

From Norman Mailer’s book “The Fighter” ( Before the great Ali- Frazier match in 1975) *“Does anybody hear me? cried Ali.”Are we going to the dance?”... / “We’re going to dance.”said Ali, “We’re going to da-ance.”.... ’ On the night he jogged with Ali…Ali said afterward, “It’ll be a great experience for you remembering that you ran with the Champion just a few days before the fight” ’. My Uncle has his birthday next week, turning 72. The passion with we he lives remains a benchmark. Though on opposite sides of the world, he can reach out so tenderly, so passionately, and with such sensitivity, and we talk for hours about all that concerns us every few weeks. Neither distance, nor time, nor tabu present barriers to two hearts caring for each other. As I have remarked elsewhere, I met him as a small impressionable girl, and he has been in my corner just about all my life, and I in his, He showed me the dance, and we’re still dancing. Happy Birthday Dear Uncle. ( After some discussion and thought, I decided on a change of the original leading shot for this tribute for my Uncle’s birthday. I guess to capture the essence of a person we need many shots, in many lights and moods. What I am attempting to convey is his enduring postivity as well as the passion, and thoughtfulness. I hope this goes someway in that. This is about him, rather than about the way I feel for him. His is a hec of a story to tell.) / / / “ / / “ Huge thanks to the wonderfully patient Patrick Monnier who helped me with this image, having understood how important it was for me.
Me with my friend Blue Lake Drum who is Red Willow First People, he runs that shop in the back ground at the Taos Pueblo far north east corner of this historic site and has he got stories to tell, here he’s telling me how high he jumped when a rattlesnake snapped at him. Every year they have a Sun Festival where the likes of Paul McCartney and as Blue calls him Eric Cla”m”pton enjoy the festivities. He’s jammed with and hosted quite a few musicians of various renown and once again as he puts it, “gone to the moon”, i think that means they were rockin out man! I love him to death, such a character who never stops to suck wind, well hell no it interferes with the story – wheeze Guess by now you’re wondering who the heck is Johnny Eyeball, well that’s the dog on the right hand side, he’s a sheppard/heeler mix who got that name because one eyeball is brown and the other eyeball is white/blue, and that’s his typical position, he doesn’t say anything, that’s Blue’s department FEATURED / in the / My Wonderful Memories Group

This piece is for all the women out there. And also the men, so they will know who women really are. We are who we are, we will make no apologies, all we ask is to be understood and listened to. No need to solve all our problems, no need to solve us. We are definitely self sufficient, self reliant, resilience is our power, be our equals, our lovers, our friends, where it truly matters. This is not a “hate all men” propaganda, it is simply a “power to all women” poem and also for men to understand us better…........ These are things that we want to preserve the memory forever. Our closest. Those who mean the most to us. Animals that experienced as many great moments and we were closer than friends. Places to go back, we will always have memories, because there it has become something that is important to us.
In this group we want to show that there are places, people and animals who have been or are still an inspiration for us, something that is important, valuable and close.
