Wave action by georgieboy98
We paid a (fairly) early morning visit to our local beach – about 5 minutes from home – to see the high tide on the morning after a mighty storm had gone through. It wasn’t as impressive as we thought it might have been but i still managed to take a whole heap of photos, of which this is just one. The location is Yanchep on the Indian Ocean coast of Western Australia about 60 kms north of Perth. I should add that this was almost exactly mid winter..

Wirksworth III by Gwenda Oxley
Side view and part of the outbuilding of Wirksworth House, Bellerive, Tasmania. Built by Charles Featherstone, who was born in Hobart in 1852 the son of a publican, he became a lawyer and member of parliament. He moved to Bellerive and in 1888 built himself a huge Italianate sandstone mansion, Wirksworth designed by Robert Huckson. It had two storeys, gas lighting and a special machine where the gas was made, hot and cold water in the bathroom (a great luxury at the time), seven bedrooms, servants’ staircase, enormous water tanks and an innovative sewerage system.

Luna Park Does HDR - Moods of A City #24 - The HDR Series by Philip Johnson
Luna Park (Sydney) is an amusement park situated on the gorgeous Sydney Harbour, overlooking the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. Opened in 1935, Luna Park is an iconic part of Sydney for residents and visitors alike. From 1924 – 1932 the Luna Park site was occupied by Harbour Bridge workers. They built two large workshops and a wharf on the site to assist in the Bridge’s construction. Following the conclusion of the construction the New South Wales Government rendered the site to be used as a recreational area. The park was constructed in just over 3 months, following the hard work of 800 structural workers, 70 electricians and 35 artists, among many others! Luna Park, Sydney opened at 8.00pm on 4 October, 1935. The park was an immediate success and the admission charge was abolished after the first year! The park remained open during the war years, however, the lights were “browned out”. Luna Park became a hugely popular stomping ground for Servicemen, both American and Australian. The park closed every winter, providing the opportunity to renovate, repair and add new attractions. Unfortunately, a tragic fire in 1979 in the Ghost train ride caused Luna Park to close down completely. In the years that followed, the park changed hands a number of times, was threatened with demolishment, re-opened and closed until finally in 1990 the Government passed the Luna Park Site Act, which protected the land. A Luna Park Reserve Trust was established and took control of the park in October 1990. Major restoration of the park and all of its buildings commenced in 1992. This shot was taken using a Nikon D300, nikon 18-20mm lens and processed using Photomatix For visitors to Sydney Luna Park can be reached via a regular ferry service from Circular Quay

ARCHITECTURE: MEIJERS BRIDGE by Mariaan Krog
This is a photo of the Meijers Bridge in Middelburg, MP, South Africa. / Mpumalanga is one of the nine provinces of this country. The bridge was built in the 19th century. / Middelburg – brief introduction: / Known as the “Heartland of the Ndebele”, Middelburg came about in 1872 when the town of Nazareth was renamed to mark its halfway location between the two important towns at the time, Pretoria and Lydenburg. Middelburg is located in the Mpumalanga Province, which is famous for its fauna and flora, as well as what it has to offer to the historical and cultural enthusiast. The area is a haven for the naturalist who can enjoy hiking, fly-fishing, camping, horseback riding or 4×4 drives and trails. The town also has its share of places of historical interest, including the White Church which was built in 1890. The church was used by British soldiers during the second Anglo Boer War and is one of the few remaining structures that wasn’t destroyed during the war. The Meyer’s Bridge, built in 1896, has remained standing for over a century, surviving numerous floods. This national monument was created as a road link between Lydenburg and Middelburg at the turn of the century. Middelburg, the birthplace of celebrated playwright Athol Fugard, is in the heart of “Jock of the Bushveld” country. Today, Middelburg is one of the growth points of the province. It boasts a number of good restaurants and pubs and there’s an independent movie theatre that incorporates a children’s games area. There’s an active nightlife in nearby Witbank, about 25 kilometres from Middelburg. The town offers the opportunity to leave behind the mad bustle of the metropolitan areas such as Johannesburg and Pretoria, without having to forego the amenities and activities one would expect from a modern town. There’s a strong sense of community, with numerous, well-established interest groups for activities such as photography, bird watching, community development and active Charity groups, eg Rotary, Lions & Round Table. Middelburg is 170 km from Johannesburg, 140km from Pretoria and 200km from Nelspruit. / / /

In 1939 the house was taken over by the Tasmanian Education Service and used as a Teachers Centre. In recent years the house was in danger of demolition until the Tasmanian government, recognising its historic worth, decided to renovate it last year. / It is thought to have a connecton to the village of this name in Derbyshire?

Garden Song by Glenna Walker
I was walking around in my yard yesterday and saw this in one of my neighbor’s backyard. Was hard to get as there were shrubs next to the fence, and the birdbath is not setting on level ground. That is a rose bush next to it.

"Kilkee Cliffs - County Clare" by Avril Brand
Oils on canvas painting of the cliffs overlooking Kilkee with George’s Head in the distance. On the foreground, I painted Sea Pinks – my favourite flower and that of my departed friend, Hannah. Sea Pinks only grow and bloom along the coast and what a wondrous sight to see these delicate flowers form bushes of pink so close to the sea. In memory of my dear friend, Hannah of Kilbaha. Her gentle and kind nature and her unflinching belief in the goodness of people gave me hope and helped us adapt in a strange land. Wildlife, landscapes and Irish life paintings by Avril Brand
