I have never experienced the beautiful blue’s of the Indian ocean, like i did in Mozambique, it is real and it is “magical”! / The “Dows” are these little boats that you can hire as a sort of “taxi” to just go on a fabulous venture’s on the peninsula or other little islands or as transport from “Inhambane” across to “Maxixe” on the mainland. Otherwise the locals go on daily net fishing and you can buy fresh fish from them when they return from their everyday, living trip!
On the outskirts of Lichinga, one of the larger towns in Mozambique, sits a clump of gorgeous trees. So close to town, yet it feels like its own oasis.
After having so much response on “Spikkels” and the “Crow” I decided to share more of the magic moments I spent on the beach with Spikkels and the crow. All these captures just happened between two of natures creatures, unknown to each other, when I went for my daily ventures on the beach on Mozambique. There was just this amazing bond between the two strangers, animals, one a wirehair terrier, and a crow! I am going to try and load the captures on times that I did the captures to get the effects and magical moments, I will number the shoots to get them in sequence. Just enjoy these wonderful moments that I experienced! A friend in Mozambique, has a “Wirehair Terrier”, we were next door neighbors when I lived in Mozambique. “Spikkels” would always be there, whenever I went for an adventure stroll, with my camera of course! This amazing “ritual” happened everyday! This crow would come and actually play with him! He would dive down and chase Spikkels and then Spikkels would turn around and chase the crow again! They did not know each other, grew up together or nothing between them that could cause this! I have numerous captures of them playing on these outings, just wanted to share this!
I painted this in transparent watercolour on 300gsm Bockingfords w/c paper using W/N paints. This is my niece Sam having a reflective moment and seemed distant in her thoughts…. We were away on holiday in Mozambique a few years back and when I saw her leaning like this against the Palm tree in front of the house I could not miss this ideal photo opportunity!

LARGE VIEW RECOMMENDED ALL WOMAN AT WORK…. THE “FIREWOOD” COLLECTORS / In my previous captures in the series, I concentrated on a family and family life, over a weekend. On Monday, a new week, new responsibilities…. I want to show a few woman’s face expressions, while at work, what they do or .. what is expected from them as woman, wife and mother, to bring their share in family life. Now it is time to show what woman do, where and how they work. / PREVIOUS CAPTURES WAS THE COLLECTING OF FIREWOOD… / NOW THEY ARE “THE TOMATO HARVESTERS” Woman harvesting
A Mozambique beach capture…... so many sweet memories of the most beautiful place, for me, on earth!
WALKING ON A BEACH IN MOZAMBIQUE AT LOW TIDE IS AN ADVENTURE… THIS IS THE ONE HALF A HUGE CLAM THAT GOT WASHED OUT. WHEN I FIND THEM I ALWAYS WONDER WHAT WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO KILL AND OPEN THIS CLAM? I HAVE A CLAM FROM THERE THAT MEASURES 40CM IN LENGTH AND 25CM IN HEIGHT, ITS TO HEAVY FOR ME TO PICK UP… THATS NOT A LIVE ONE..

I CAN SAY NO MORE ON THIS CAPTURE, I WILL DO A WRITING ON THIS ONE, ALTHOUGH I KNOW I AM NOT A “WRITER”. CAPTURED: IMHAMBANE PROVINCE, PRAIA DE BARRA, “WHITE SANDS” LODGE, MOZAMBIQUE. / /
I have had this in mind for a very long time, doing a series of rural people, the children, mothers and fathers and their way of living in Africa. Some are more fortunate than others, we seem to forget how fortunate we are, join me on this trip and see for yourselfs. / Captured locations are Mozambique and up North in the Limpopo Province, South Africa THIS IS THE FATHER, THE FAMILY
FEATURED IN: / ‘EXTREME CLOSEUPS’ / “BLOOMING TREES” CAMERA: NIKOND50, / SIGMA 70-300mmD 1:4-5.6DG LENZ LOCATION CAPTURED: / GROENLAND SAFARI’S/GAMELODGE, Tolwe, Limpopo Province, South Africa A Succulent deciduous shrub up to 0,6-3m; on rocky ridges and brackish low-lying flats in bushveld. / Distribution: Northern KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Limpopo Province, Swaziland, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and across tropical africa. / General: Widely used as fish poison or poison for arrow heads, but also heavily browsed by game.
LOCATION CAPTURED: PRAIA DO BARRA PENINSULA, Inhambane Province, Mozambique A, once used, old fishing fence, built with reeds, by a local fisherman in Mozambique. At hightide tide the water level rises much higher than the reeds, the fish comes in with hightide and as the tide changes and the water level goes down the fish land up in these huge areas that was fenced of / with reeds. About 70% of the peninsula has these, owned by local fisherman. At low tide they come and collect their catches. Sadly lots of beautiful tropical fish also loose their lives this way as they are just left to die. But, there are thousands of poor Mozambique people that have no income after the 20 years of war and this is the only way they can survive, to live of the sea.
