Moraine Lake – Banff National Park Alberta, Canada / The lake has a dam of logs from fallen trees at one end, looking at these I could not but wonder what would become of them, but then I thought, what a final resting place. After going up the Zugspitze last time, we afterwards drove to Eibsee and went for a walk around the lake. The panorama you get to see there is amazing, especially with the Zugspitze looming above the lake. This photo was taken at the westernmost part, looking South-East. location / 10°57.8448’ E / 47°27.7497’ N Canon EOS 40D / Sigma 10-20 EX DC HSM @11mm / Hoya ND8 HMC / Manfrotto 724B digi -2,0,+2 f/11 / Photomatix Pro
With fall colors hanging on, and the first dusting of snow on the mountains, I thought this made for a nice scene. I was in the nice warm sun…near the trees, while it was snowing, once again, on the mountain tops. Taken on Rock Creek Road in the High Sierra of California. Nikon D200, Nikkor 18-200mm VR lens
The glacier on the right would be more rightly called the Athabasca glacier, but that name is reserved for the larger outlet flow from the Columbia Icefield, out of frame to the right. That glacier is no longer in direct contact with Mount Athabasca, but the bigger/famous glacier got the name, what are you gonna do eh? So the glacier on Mount Athabasca (center) is called Glacier A. Here’s a nice up close and personal shot of the glacier that got the name: http://www.redbubble.com/people/neil-thompson/art/4354601-1-athabasca-glacier-in-winter The ridge here forms the boundary between Jasper (right) and Banff (left) National Parks in Alberta, Canada, and is therefore called Boundary Ridge. The point I’m standing on is unofficially known as Boundary Peak, and the glacier to the left is called Boundary Glacier.

High up on a mission to photograph the awesome Wakefield Falls..Mt. Cook N.P. Sth. Island ~ N.Z. / This shot looks back into the Tasman Valley. We had intermittent rain showers which were a little annoying having to constantly keep the ND’s clean – but so so worth it for when the sun poked it’s head out, we’d get this rainbow across the valley..A fantastic late afternoon out photographing in this incredible location..
