Leonardo da Vinci once described clouds as ‘bodies without surface’. They are ghostlike, ephemeral, nebulous; you can see their shapes, yet it is hard to say where their forms begin and end…..
“I’m heading down to the dock of the bay, / —to feel the power of the waves, / I’m gonna move up close to that wind, / & wrestle with the thoughts solitude always brings. / Y’see I’m stuck between hell & the deep blue sea, / & I know that water’s sucked under better man than me” Matt Johnson from the album soul mining….. Have you ever looked at something and thought ahhh a capture some day. Today was the day of the first attempt. It was a freaking blizzard out. High winds out in the country in my area the farmers call windswept. I headed into town for brunch at the pub. The roads were clear if you call two feet of snow in the good parts clear. High winds.. no courage to go to the tree. So after a good brunch and a few shots of whiskey neat style. I came back home.. I felt daring. Pushing snow with a big four wheel drive truck I went. There it was.. I fell in love. Out in the winds with the snow blowing hard I set the camera on a bean bag my wife made me for this purpose. Focus , Light , Frame, Oh God please.. Here is the first one. Maybe more. When a new sky appears.. storms or sunset we shall see.. I hope you find it in your heart to view large. I do so love you all on RB.. / Chuck This was taken a few miles east of Allegan, Michigan USA This Was Written By Ari..( Aritheeagle ) Thank You Can you tell? This is a photo of beautiful hillside that I pass nearly every day. I could never catch a picture of this wonderful view, because there was no safe place to pull over on the highway as I was driving past. On this particular autumn evening, all traffic was stopped in a construction zone, just as the sun had disappeared behind the mountains. The last rays of sunlight were only visible up on the hilltop to the east. Thanks to that unexpected traffic jam, I finally got the shot that I had wanted to capture for a very long time. (It really pays to keep you camera at your side at ALL times!) This landscape image was captured from I-180, exactly on the “city line” between Montoursville and Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The photo was shot “handheld” with a Canon EOS 10D camera using a Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L zoom lens @ 200mm. The shutter speed was 1/250th sec at f/9.5. The camera’s ISO was set to 100. My daughter who was 8 at the time was down by the shore in early winter. She often goes down by herself. She looks like she has a lot on her mind. This was taken at our home in Northport, NY.

Sometimes a golden field against a blue cloudless sky or the undulating lines of a desert are beautiful unto themselves. This group is for landscapes with a minimum of detail, to show off the beauty of simplicity.
