Introduce yourself the fun way

Jo O'Brien Jo O'Brien 4617 posts

Finally a group for us Victorians to hang out in and keep up to date with what’s going on around the place!

I have been lucky enough to meet many RedBubble members from Melbourne and surrounds and so far everyone has been so lovely. How about we introduce ourselves a little here. Who you are, what kind of art you do, what breakfast cereal you eat, whether you are single and handsome…. you know… the important info.

Sure, Jo, and thanks for the invite. Here’s a bit of a rundown of my vital statistics

  • I fumble my way around digital photography
  • Throw words into Microsoft Word and hope they make sense after spell-check
  • Like Kraft crunchy peanut butter on toast
  • Drink coffee – white and two sugars
  • I’m taken – so ease back you spunky chicks
  • Was able to wear budgie smugglers 20 years ago without clearing the beach
  • I’m vertically challenged – 5’7"
  • Don’t mind a couple of beers and a few cab savs
  • Barrack for Essendon F.C.
  • Blood type O+
  • I’m a lover not a fighter
  • Chocoholic
  • I don’t mind admiring Kylie Minogue’s posterior

Anyway, that’s the important stuff. :)

Darren, if you stand next to me you won’t feel vertically challenged at all :D

I live in Geelong but used to live in Melbourne and am there visiting family often enough.

I have been doing phography for a short time and have a long way to go. My main hobby is dog agility and sometimes showing but I am on the bench at the moment as I have hurt my knee so when I am finished feeling sorry for myself I hope to get some photography done before I can start running again.

Hello,
I live in this fair city and thought I would join this group. I am married with two beautiful children. We live in Boronia because my wife and I had Bogan upbringings and thought it wrong to deny the children of this privilege.
I am originally from the bush, on a farm in the foothills of the Strathbogie Ranges near Euroa. I have lived just about everywhere in Melbourne and love the place. I live a strong latte about every half an hour which must be a great disappointment to my family of tea drinkers. I have got to the age where you lose all technical knowledge, which is in part why we had kids, so they can tune in the new video. I enjoy a red wine and apparently, according to the Age, I probably enjoy too much. I am a firm believer in the fact that being healthy is the slowest and most painful way of dying. I am purely an amateur amongst professionals here, but I love to paint and paint in Melbourne. I am a lowly paid public servant by day/night and try to do as my art in my spare time. I am a tactical disengagement specialist, which means I have a black belt in running away. Apparently I am tallish. I love this site, it is truly inspirational

Me in a few lines (in no particular order):

  • Photographically evolving for the last 15 years (I started out as an amoeba)
  • For breakfast Carman’s original muesli (GM free, all Australian, great taste)
  • I like a good quick drive on a twisty road
  • single (sigh)
  • I wear a suit 9-5 – made by people who get a fair and proper wage
  • On occasion I’ll listen to talking books
  • I read a broadsheet newspaper
  • now 25kg lighter than the same time last year
  • ambition no. 356 – become a news photographer that helps change the world
  • I read the instruction book first
  • I like the mountains a little more than the beach
  • I believe Jo O’B will one day be worshiped as a goddess by a tribe of people somewhere

I should practice what I preach, so here’s some random things to know about me.

  1. I’m an artistic ‘slashie’… photographer/artists’ agent/singer/actor/stylist (obviously I have problems with committment!)
  2. I shaved my hair off number one style in year nine and have restricted myself to an annual chop ever since
  3. My breakfast rule of thumb is the bigger the better- and I like it hot- mushrooms, spinach, grilled tomato, eggs, toast… yummy
  4. I sew labels with my name inside all my clothes in case they get lost.
  5. I’m a really fussy eater- no nuts, not yellow cheese (but love white cheese), nothing that jiggles, nothing minty, nothing in layers (such as sandwhiches) and never mixing hot and cold, such as cold creme on a hot apple pie…. oh and I don’t like creme or apple pie on their own either
  6. I am freaking awesome at putting together Ikea furniture
  7. My perfect afternoon: The Age, nibbles, a glass of red and great company in the sunshine

Hey guys, my name’s Jess I’m 21 and live in the way outer North Eastern Suburbs (Hurstbridge)… Some random facts about me include:

My favorite hair colour is bright red, the redder the better though it never stays that way long enough:(
My favorite food is Garlic Prawns, so yum.
My favorite book series is the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, absolutely amazing.
I am obsessed with Doctor Who
I am paranoid of swimming in the ocean
I quite drinking and smoking this year and am now running out of reasons to leave the house
I love to cook, if graphic design fails me I think I’d consider it as a career
My favorite chocolate is peanut M&Ms
I just bought a black Suzuki Sierra soft top which would be so awesome if I could actually drive manual…

Ummm, I guess that’s some of the important stuff for now

Hey all, my name is Michael, I’m 25 and I’m an eastern suburbanite.

  1. I have no pets, I used to have a dog and a cat but both passed away in the last 2 years
  2. I drive my car and get to almost everywhere around Melbourne. I work in Dandenong, play sport in Reservoir, have friends in Altona and love the city.
  3. I play soccer(football), squash and generally destroying my body slowly by letting people kick it.
  4. I used to drink 7 cups of tea a day, now it’s 3 and 2 coffee’s.
  5. I enjoy long walks on a short pier.

So for me, it goes down a little like this:

  • I’m a Geordie Pom, without a Geordie accent
  • Obsessed with derelict industrial sites and HDR, and on the learning curve with freaky fashion shots
  • Can’t stand aniseed, but for some reason love Sambucca. Not so much for breakfast – I’ll get to that later
  • Am massively impulsive
  • Love late nights, but hate early mornings
  • I don’t do breakfast cereal – it’s toast or porridge for me. Unless of course I’m out, in which case I’ll take the biggest thing on the menu.
  • Single? No. Handsome? Entirely proportional to how much you’ve drunk.
  • Darren – we’re blood group buddies – woohoo go O+!
  • 9-5 (he says optimistically) I work for a product development consultancy
  • I used to blow stuff up in the arctic circle for a living
  • Love to read, but never make time

That’s all you’re getting for now – I can’t give all my secrets away.

I love riding my big black motorbike when not photographing.
(Would make a good prop for a collaboration if anyone is interested)

I love riding my pushbike – when not riding my big black motorbike or taking
photos. I am working my way through the entire melbourne bike path
network. It is a parallel world that not many people are aware of and good for
a bit of exercise.

I am addicted to Nescafe caramel coffee sachets (Box of 10 for $4.90, but
usually wait for when they are on special and stock up!)

I love sitting out on my deck amongst the trees, reading the age with one of
my caramel coffees (if breakfast), or a bottle or two of a nice red at other times.

I am an Apple Mac person and it is the only religion i am interested in….other
than motorcycling!

I am a graphic designer during the day in Box Hill, then scurry back to the hills and rock on my porch with a gun muttering to myself waiting for the possums to surround me when the sun goes down.

I love any comedy, the more offbeat the better.

I have a sweet tooth….come to think of it, every piece of me loves
anything sweet.

Alternative JJJ music listener – can’t stand MOR or Country.

Favourite films: The Shining, Anything by Michael Mann, THX 1138, Syriana,
The Thin Red Line amongst 1000 others!!

I am of mixed upbringing.
My father was a doberman and my mother an english springer spaniel.
I grew up in a card board box suspended on the edge of st kilda pier with a penguin who until I was nine I thought was my brother.
My father was interned for howling nonsensically at street lights and my mother took off with my crate mates father – flipper fred which ironically resulted in the penguin who I thought was my brother only to find out he wasn’t my brother actually become my brother.
Which obviously meant we had to call off the wedding.
Oh and I live in a plastic bubble.
With a pigeon.
Who until recently I thought was my brother…

Hi,
I’m Sam. I hope I’m not the only painter here. I meant to come to the last meet up but I was just too broke even to put petrol in my car.
I’ve been painting a few years and have no fine art degree. I’m a single mum of 3 from East Bentleigh and loooove having time to listen to my music and paint. Mostly I work from photographs although having a live model would be awesome. I’ve been painting quite a few nudes but have also done some work on Luna Park.

My favourite colour is purple. My inspiration comes from everywhere including within. My mother wishes I’d paint cats and not nudes hehe That makes me even more determined to paint nudes.

I have a mad maltese/shih-tzu 4 legged hairy boyfriend who doubles as a foot warmer. I’m painfully broke and shy which means meet ups are difficult…but I shall endeavour to try and get to one at some stage.

Look forward to meeting and chatting to more of you as well as looking at your lovely work.
Sam

Life hasn’t been the same since the Northcote Social Club stopped selling Rooftop Lager….

My heart has always been pulled between two very different homes, and being such a contrary wench, they just have to be on opposite ends of the earth. So while I sat high above the cobblestones of Brussels, in my medieval house with blood red walls and devil beer, I planned my list for returning back here; my other home.

  • Drink a honey martini in Bar Nancy, Northcote
  • Watch the sun set from the top of the Rialto
  • Take a cruise down the Yarra
  • Eat vegan chocolate cake at the Vegie Bar (try finding a vegetarian restaurant in Belgium!)
  • Walk on the beach in St. Kilda
  • Shop on Bridge Road, Richmond
  • Buy gingerbread perfume in Kleins in Fitzroy
  • Drink Mountain Goat beer in Bar Open, Fitzroy
  • Dance to rockabilly in the Retreat, Brunswick
  • Watch the lights from the top of Mt Dandenong
  • Drink a Rooftop Lager in the Northcote Social Club

Alas, the latter was denied, and the closest I’ve come to walking on St Kilda beach was tottering around the back streets of that suburb in the wee hhours on stilettos, looking for Jo O’Brien’s car, but I’ve managed to cross everything else off my list since I’ve been back.

Feels good to be home.

Hi I am from Ballarat so not exactly Melbourne
I have a wife, a daughter, two dogs and eight horses.
One of the horses is a month old filly who could be the cutest horse in Australasia……..actually she is the cutest!!!
My passions are horses, photography, travelling, good food and time to myself. I don’t drink alcohol but I do love coffee.
My job can be high stress so the time I spend away from work is very important.
I am constantly amazed at the quality of work here on th Bubble.
Combining my passions for photography and horses has given new vigor to my life.
Getting old sucks but watching you youngsters almost makes up for that………………
I look forward to getting a chance to meet some of you.
Cheers Ade

Hi All,

I have lived on the outskirts of Melbourne for almost 5 years now. And I really love it down here. Melbourne is the best city, I adore it.
Before that I lived in Brisbane but I was born in Scotland (migrated to Australia when I was 8).

I am 32, married, have two dogs and a cat – no children.

I am into painting, drawing, anything arty and crafty really. Photography recently. Have taken no classes in art/photography but will get around to it at some point. I am also into creative writing, particularly poetry. I enjoy reading, have a houseful of books a cupboard full of craft materials and a very understanding husband.

By day I hang out in a little production office inside a window factory which doesn’t get any natural light. I spend most of my time doing admin type stuff and chasing the factory boys around with paperwork for their deliveries. The rest of the time I try to fit art and creative stuff into my life somewhere around the laundry and housework.

I find it much easier to communicate in writing, have a deathly fear of large groups of people, and an unhealthy addiction to scrambled eggs

Howdy Folks,
My name is Andrew but my mates usually call me Mohair, The Friar or Stop Drinking My Beer… I am tall and dark (2 out of 3 ain’t bad…)

I work as a computer geek using about 1% of my brain while the other 99% cruises the strange universe that is my head. I swear I’m a little ADD… ;-). I’m quite successful in the IT industry which makes me think “What would happen if I did something using my whole brain eh….?”

I love Melbourne. I’ve lived there for 20 years now. It took time (I hated the first couple of years) but the place has grown on me. I miss it now I have to work in Canberra for a while. The only other city I would consider living in now is San Francisco. I really love that place! There is a real feel about it.

I spent a decade playing with photography before really starting to explore a style. I ‘took photos’ whereas now I like to ‘create images’. A big goal is to begin working with people more – I have a head full of images to make up that involve using folks (I don’t like the term ‘model’) but the tough bit is finding folks to volunteer and organising the time to meet!

I also like to write a bit. And when time permits I want to learn painting – acrylics I think.

I used to own a fibre-optic cactus…

hello all,

I’m Michael and i’m 26 I feel in love with photography as my second love being film. Speaking of which I still shoot on it because I haven’t gotten around to saving up for a DSLR. I sometimes eat fruit loops and muesli (not together though) I’m on the life long journey in experimenting with your art and finding your style. So I have dabbled in video production, drawing, poetry, creative writing and photography. Music is a flaw though I adore musicians even tried to play the guitar, sax and recorder at school. but I don’ think composing music is my forte.

My name is Adrian

If I were to eat cereal, I would go for a Just Right, or maybe a Weat Bix meal. At the moment, I’m hooked on toast, plain with a glass of orange juice. I will not change until I accidently buy the wrong bread, find out it tastes horrid toasted, and swear off the stuff forever (or at least 3 months)

I live in Southbank, as close as I possibly can to the office I work in. I’ve done this, because clearly I’m an idiot.

I have a cat, called Muggins. I also have a girlfriend, in a weird coincidence, her name is also Muggins.

I often lie about Steph’s name, for no other reason than to amuse myself.

I’ve been taking photos for just over a year now, and I still feel like I have universes of experience to cover before I’ll be happy with the results. What I see doesn’t always come out in the way I see it.

I was an artistic whipper snapper… once enjoying drawing, painting, sculpting and other fun expressions of late teen internal crisis management. Photography is my first foray back into that world, and I’m hooked completely all over again. Apparently I had some late teen angst still simmering… thankfully I’ve found an outlet, instead of selling all my possessions, burning my shoes, and joining a cult in Nimbin.

I have used zoo visits, day trips to beaches and random events to practice my photo’ing, and I’m hoping I’ll be ready to kick it up a notch in the next few months. I really want to start doing it far more seriously, and plan what I want to do, how I want it to turn out, and how many tens of thousands of dollars I’ll sell out for

Note to anyone still reading, I will sell out for far less than “tens of thousands of dollars”. I think you’d be suprised how little it would take… my guess, I would goes as low as selling all my dreams out for a Snickers Bar and a Big M (large, chocolate only)
