Featured in Maryland August 24, 2009. Best Viewed Full Size This is the turret of the original school building of the Glenelg Country School, located in Howard County, Maryland. The title “Dragon’s Lair” comes from the school’s mascot, the dragon. Of course now Glenelg boasts beautiful modern facilities, but somehow all the structures have been done in keeping with the atmosphere of the glorious old home you see here which housed the first classrooms over half a century ago. A wonderful, nurturing but tough academic climate, small classroom sizes, outstanding faculty and staff. And the campus itself, as you can see, is a thing of beauty!! Post processing included HDR in Photomatix from a single hand-held image duplicated to evals of +/- 2, and the addition of a texture layer, blended in Photoshop. texture courtesy of Ghostbones on Flickr

Featured in Rural Around The Globe November 26, 2009. Best on Full Size It was a VERY great honor and pleasure for my Dear Hubby and me to spend Saturday, November with 21 in the company of Mike Rucci , BigD , and Lori Deiter at the Conowingo Dam in Maryland. Thank you so much, Mike, for encouraging us to visit here … and thanks to all three of you for your wonderful friendship and all the laughs and for putting up with my little-girl squeals of delight!!! I don’t think I’ve been that excited since I was a kid!!!!!! Bald Eagle image taken with the Nikon D300 and the 70-300mm vr Nikon lens, Manfrotto tripod mounted (possibly?), at shutter speed 1/2500, ap f/8.0, focal dist 300mm, exp -.33, iso 400. A misty morning at the Conowingo Dam. In the lower right corner there’s a misty silhouette of an Eagle stretching his wings. I arrived early at the dam so I wouldn’t miss any Eagle activity. It turned out to be a beautiful day at the dam and some of us Redbubblers got a chance to see some Eagle action! Natural color and light. Taken 11/21/09 – Conowingo Dam, Susquehanna River, Maryland.
This is the term we local photographers give to an eagle perched in a tree .When i say local i mean the regulars at the Conowingo dam on the Susquehanna river in Maryland. There are about 10 or 12 of us who are there everyday .This was taken sunday November /22 /2009.We figured this bird was about 4 years old not quite a mature eagle and he sat in this tree which was leaning out over the river for over 4 hours ,Since the action was slow with very few birds flying I said that this fellow was the most photographed bird that day.It was only about 40 feet away from the road and with over 60 people with cameras shooting for 4 hours he must have about 2 million photos taken of him, this was one of mine.I use a nikon d200 and a 300mm lens settings 1/500 sec / f/6.3 / iso 640 / spot metering / aperture priority
An eagle fishing on the Susquehanna river in front of the dam . Worked the colors in capture n/x 2 He did get the fish not sure which varity a shad more than likly . An eagles success rate for grabbing and actully eating a fish in the wild is below 30% ,here at this location because the dam churns out so many dead and stunned fish the % is over 90 .The eagles biggest problem here is getting away from the many other eagles that are to lazy to fish on there own .They wait for a hungry eagle to get the fish then they will chase that bird until he drops it and they can swoop down and grab it or they give up and fly away to try again .I have seen so many birds drop a fish after being chased only to have another bird grad it out of mid air.The photos i have of this are not very good but i am hopeing to get one to post soon. / I use a nikon d200 and a300mm vr lens settings for this shot—1/800 sec at f/8 iso400 spot metering
Best on Full Size it really is When I first began taking photography seriously … and believe me, as much as I joke around, I do take it seriously … someone gave me a wonderful bit of advice: “always turn around.” And in the case of this particular image, it couldn’t have been more wise. I had been chasing the “sunlight-through-autumn leaves” look all that afternoon … and without a whole lot of success, I might add. At one point, I happened to glance back over my shoulder and snap this image … and a couple more for good measure, of course. But it wasn’t until I got home and loaded it up that I realized how much I liked it. Hope you do too. Image taken off of Church Road, Howard County, Maryland. Handheld image taken with the Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens, uv filter … not sure if the cp filter was on or not. Shutter 1/250, aperture f/8.0, exp. -0.33, iso 320. Cloning of evil telephone pole and wires then off to Photomatix with three images at +/-2 evals, then back to Photoshop for a light, light Orton and a hint of texture.
11/17/09 ~ Featured in Rural Around the Globe ~ Thank you BigD!!! :o) When I see a Bald Eagle in flight my first thought is freedom…. so I named this photo “Born Free”. I spent the morning with fellow Redbubblers Mike Rucci and BigD at the Conowingo Hydroelectric Dam in Maryland. It’s an amazing hot spot for Bald Eagles and photographers (with BIG lenses). Unfortunately, the hydroelectric dam was inactive and the weather was dreary so there wasn’t a lot of Eagle activity. Since I only have a 300mm lens, this is the only photo I salvaged from my visit. / See Mike’s Eagle photos he has some great shots!! It was very overcast and gray…. so I enhanced the color in photoshop. The weather forecast is looking better for Sunday…. so maybe I’ll be back!!! / Taken 11/14/09 at the Conowingo Dam, Conowingo, Maryland
Mike Rucci, fellow Redbubbler, decided to do some fishing at the Conowingo Dam to pass the time while waiting to take pictures of Bald Eagles. Although it was a very beautiful day at the dam, the Eagles were not very active. One fellow photographer with a HUGE lens said he counted approximately 115 Eagles along the shores of the Susquehanna River, but they weren’t doing much flying. Taken 11/15/09 at the Conowingo Dam, Susquehanna River, Maryland Some Redbubblers are meeting at the Conowingo Dam on Saturday Nov 21…. the Eagles have been pretty active the last couple days. Featured in Historic Places 11/09 Featured in “Old Things” 11/09 In 1860 Ferdinand Wood was contracted by Cecil County to build a bridge over Lower Hills Fording. Its red roof and walls were added to protect the wooden frame from the elements. In 1927 the area around the bridge was purchased by William Dupont as part of his recreational farm and named Foxcatcher Farm. Upon his death the Department of Natural Resources took over the land. By then the bridge was showing the signs of age. In 1950 a truck broke through the floorboards and fell into the creek below. It wasn’t until 1992 that the Department of Natural Resources rebuilt it. While false work supported the original roof, the bridge underneath was completely redone with a steel frame. The old Kingpost splices and Burr Arch chord timber was preserved and used to maintain the bridge’s original appearance. It is registered with the National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges. / This area was also the training center for 2007 Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro. In 1994 it received the State’s Historic Civil Engineering Landmark Award. Taken with a Nikon D90 and a Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens No software added!
