About This Group

Would you like to host this group?

Sometimes, for whatever reason, a group is left without any active hosts. If you’d like help with hosting this group this is what you need to do:

  1. Find a minimum of two other group members who would like to host the group with you as a team. You could do this via bubblemail or by asking for volunteers in the group forum.
  1. Write to us with the usernames of three or more people to become hosts, and include a link to the group.
  1. After we instate the new hosting team, we will ask you all to join the Friends of RedBubble group and have a read of the host manual before you get started.
  1. We discourage people from hosting bucketloads of groups, so if you already have quite a few groups on your hosting résumé and this one isn’t particularly close to your heart, please consider encouraging some of the other group members to give hosting a go.

The group where tiny things look big.

The 1:1 Macro Photography Group is a moderated group. Please submit for approval only your best macro images.

Acceptance criteria
Defining 1:1 ie. true macro can be tricky but after much thought, we have decided not to go by the individual sensor size, because that would severely disadvantage members with less expensive cameras.
Instead, we go by a generic film sensor which is 24 mm x 36 mm and say that the area photographed from edge to edge of the frame must not be larger than that, but it can be smaller (magnification bigger than “lifesize” ie. 2:1, 3:1 etc is also accepted)..

Camera and lens information MUST be in the description, plus any use of macro filters, extension tubes or close up lenses. If you have cropped the images, then this must be indicated as well. Without this information, your image WILL be rejected.

Please note, we don’t only reject work on the basis of magnification. We also look for good composition, excellent focus, lack of noise and abundance of detail

If your image has been rejected or removed from the group, please do not re-submit.

If you have any questions or suggestions (regarding our decisions, or any other aspect of the group) please post it in the forum or contact one of our admins (at the moment photofairy is dealing with this aspect of administration).

If asked how we feel an image could be improved, or for a specific reason why it was declined, we are happy to offer concise critique under the understanding that the person who asks genuinely wants to know, rather than asking just so that they can argue about it.
We do not write multiple notes back and forth justifying our decision again and again.

All admin decisions are final and we ask members to respect this.

If your work is not quite 1:1 in magnification, here are some excellent other groups related to macro and items usually photographed as close-up and/or macro:
