Another posed portrait, which I’m not particularly fond of, but again just like the “Colcabamba Residents” picture, it was an exception – especially in the case of this wonderful woman and her sweet children. What a fantastic opportunity it was to witness this culture up close. It was also quite endearing to see how hospitable and open they were to complete strangers. Arts and Crafts are an important industry in Colombia but they are also a significant expression of both the culture and artistic spirit of the people. In every area of the country from the Caribbean coast to the Jungles of the Amazon artists promote this expression on the street as well as in the local shops. /

This young lady was our tour guide at the Ingapirca Ruins in the Cañar Province of Ecuador. (The ruins are the largest ones from the Incan empire found in the small but diverse Andean country that is my birthplace.) The young lady is a descendant from a native American tribe called the Cañaris (500 A.D. to 1480 A.D.) This was taken on our way to the Cara del Inca (Face of the Inca), a 15 minute walk from the ruins. Cara del Inca is a natural formation in a rock that looks like a face (hence the name). I photographed our guide with my Olympus OM-G 35mm camera.

Featured in the Latin Flair group, / in the Amazing Graves group and / in the Image Writing group. Please read the whole story In 1995 I travelled around in Peru for about 2 month. Among other places I visited Nazca. A small place halfway South between Lima and the border with Chili. Nazca is well known because of the Nazca lines and drawings in the sand. / When we were there one of the taxi drivers brought us to the desert where, as he explained, we would find some interesting things. / When we were approaching the place we only saw sand with some white dots. He stopped and let us out of the car. / It was quite windy, so out of the car we couldn’t look far. We started walking around and then all of a sudden we were confronted with a place like this…... I can asure you, it was a kind of a shock, but also intriguing. So when we got over it we started walking around and found lots of these: The Pre Inca Cemetery of Chauchilla / For many years Chauchilla cemetery was looted by treasure hunters, who destroyed the place completely, taking away all the treasures the mummies kept in their tombs for centuries. Grave robbers just left behind the corpses, which can be seen today all over the ground. In addition to skulls and bones, visitors also can see several tombs centuries’ old, as well as long human hairs, ceramic fragments and others remains scattered on the dessert surface. It is the only archaeological site in Peru, in which ancient mummies are seen in their original graves, along with ancient artifacts, dating back to 1000 AD. Nowadays you can book trips to this site. I finally found a reasonable solution for my old film images, of which this is the first one. Canon EOS 1000N

Volcano Villarrica / Chile – Latin America Canon Powershot G1 / FL = 21mm(108mm) f=4.0 t= 1/320s ISO=100 Villarrica is one of many active Volcanos in Chile. Nevertheless, there are a lot of little towns in the surroundings of it :( And even two little cities, Pucon and Villarrica. Hope never happens anything. Very close to the volcano there is the Lake Villarrica, another nature wonder, extremely beautiful. Frances always wanted a new jeep. Well, she got it but only was rented for a few hours. But she was so happy. It was in Costa Maya when we went on the cruise.
Found this house in a rather bland and ordinary Tucson, AZ neighborhood. Needless to say, this Spanish style house is a standout. After shooting the whole thing, I started separating out bits and pieces. I think this is the best part. The old courthouse in downtown Tucson, Az sports a huge and completely tiled dome. It’s bright cheery colors are shone here as reflected in a nearby courthouse window. It just seems a bit more interesting than a straight on shot. The old Pima County courthouse is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
