“The Sentinels” is part of the Winter Collection... we barricade our doors and guard our lives every day, but storms come and go regardless of locks…so we pray for the sun, and cry relief relief!! Kalyna Berries by bevmorgan
Watercolour (Winsor&Newton) on 140 lb. Arches cold press. Toronto, Ontario, Canada / I painted this for a friend whose daughter is called Kalyna. It is mainly negative painting and shows the kalyna or guelder berry or bush cranberry, as it is known by all three names. It grows wild in North America and Europe and has a very sour taste like the cranberry, and therefore needs the addition of lots of sugar (which is not a bad thing).

/ “Yesterday” is part of the Fall Landscape Collection...the song “Yesterday” is one of my favourites and was the inspiration for this painting….my interpretation is not a literal one, but more about the feelings that the lyrics may engender….the song is so inspiring, and as fall is drifting away from us the first thng that came to my mind was that longing for it to last a little longer…the colours I instinctively chose were a blending of the fires of autumn and the cooler blues of winter…as it’s a memory, the image has been softened…..winter has come, frost is on the branches, and we reminisce about the beautiful autumn days that are no longer here... / “Yesterday” is not for mourning, but for looking back at it’s joys, and looking forward to more…..it may be the winter of our lives or the end of a romance, but we all dream of...Yesterday... True story: 2006 / It was a beautiful warmer than usual evening, near midnight when the snow began to fall. Large paper like flakes that seemed to float from the heavens, thickly at first as to appear like a sheet of white tissue. / I love this kind of snowfall and I put on jacket, boots and gloves and called the dog to come out and play. / It was snowing harder as I approached the pool house. The snow on the ground was becoming the perfect snow of which to make snowmen…. so you know where this story is going….. by 2:30 am I had accomplished this wonderful figure, placed on the end of the diving board with the attire that you see in the pic….. yes!!!! Swim mask, snorkel, and “inner tube” placed in their appropriate places. I stood back to smile at this image before me. / Happy as a clam, I went off to bed !!! / In the morning, while admiring my night time work, I am greeted by my husbands’ remark…. “I can’t believe you do things like this!!!! lol / So, last year, while searching for ideas for my Christmas card, I remembered my snowman…. and this is it folks!!!!! lol Watercolour on Arches on 140 lb. cold press

Winter Landscape...Lost by Janis Zroback
“Lost” continues the story of four friends who set out for a Christmas weekend in the country…in the first chapter, seen HERE the friends’ day starts out joyfully, but soon deteriorates along with the weather, and they quickly become lost... Watercolour on Saunders Not Paper A moment or two of stunned silence, as it slowly dawned on us that we had no idea where we were…it was the days before Mapquest and GPS and cell phones…we-were-lost…the day was getting rapidly darker as the last of the pallid sun sank behind the hills…Dahlia started to whimper and Mark, never at his best in a crisis told her to shut up, at which she burst into tears…there was no help for it…we would have to get out and walk until we found shelter somewhere…at this suggestion Dahlia’s whimpers turned into yells…she had no boots, only thin shoes suitable for city streets…hearing this Mark completely lost his temper….Dahlia always drove him mad…one wonders why he repeatedly sought her out…after calming them both down I said I felt sure (not really), that the area looked somewhat familiar and there would be a farm or something nearby…after some argument, and taking as much as we could carry, we set off, Dahlia wearing a pair of Tom’s boots which were too large for her, all the while sobbing that we should stay with the car… / The road stretched ahead, bleak and desolate, here and there patches of gleaming ice set to trap the unwary traveller, hill upon hill rising behind…a rocky terrain that did not bode well for anyone trying to negotiate it…not a creature stirred and no bird sang…the wind blew stinging ice pellets at our faces, and in no time our gloves and feet were soaked…but there were ancient dry stone walls edging the road..a sign that somewhere nearby would be shelter…..we turned a corner…”.LOOK” I cried..Janis Z..Fiction..A Weekend in the Country..Ch.2 Lost.. / A Weekend in the Country
