There are five races of the Ring-tailed Dragon Ctenophorus caudicinctus which is found across the northern parts of Australia from WA, through to NT and just in QLD. This individual is C.c.mensarum and was found in some great rocky outcrops in breakaway country in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia. They are a small dragon, only growing up to 100mm (from snout to vent, about half their total length), where they bask on top of elevated rocks displaying for passing females. This guy is a well coloured male. The ‘shot’ was taken with a Canon EOS1000D with a 150-500 @ 500 handheld. Steve is the Principal Ecologist at EnviroKey, a specialist ecological consultancy that undertakes surveys, research and education programs across Australia.

This is a location near Ellenville, New York. Behind the boulder is a sheer cliff with nothing but treetops below. Legend has it that in the old days a man named Sam was being chased by Indians. He jumped off the cliff and survived by way of having his fall broken by the trees.

Things like this fascinate me: Against what odds: A single pinon nut falls into a rock crevice – perhaps brought there for safekeeping by a squirrel or a chipmunk – and then finds inside, enough water to germinate, to crack open its shell, and send out a root; then finds enough loose dirt in which to secure itself; enough nourishment to sustain it in this hard, high place. Life happens in the strangest of places and circumstances. / ** / Canon 350D EOS / Tamron 55/200mm + polarizing filter Corel PhotoImpact x3

Wildlife, flower and animal photos only will be accepted into the group and challenges no photos with safe filter on them and no paintings!
there used to be a rule that the group was for people under the age of 30 but that has now been changed because its very hard to moderate who is older than 30!
