FEATURED NOV 2009 JAZZED UP ART / FEATURED NOV 2009 PLAYFUL PHOTOGENIC ANIMALS / FEATURED NOV 2009 THE WORLD AS WE SEE IT OR AS WE MISSED IT / I think some of my friends here may remember this guy. I had previously announced a final shot to the series, however, I have returned to my original shots, to be inspired by his elegant and emotional sensuality. This was a pelican like no other I had met. I do have two more shots from my day at the zoo with a few of my dear RB friends, previously unreleased, and shown below. I do hope you enjoy Art Pepper’s soulful jazz as much as I do, I felt this selection was in tune with his mood here. The wonderful American tenor sax man David Murray playing at a gig for Leeds Jazz.
Photo of Chris, drummer from the jazz Trio VD in a Leeds Jazz gig. The photo is a bit blurred as the light conditions were very poor and Chris moved a lot…but I love the expression in his face. Pure happiness!

A jazz trio with an incredible singer. / Gumbolini’s Crab Shack and Oyster Bar, Cornwall, Ontario, 1997. Minolta Maxxum 600si, Sigma 28 to 70, on camera flash / Kodak TMAX 100 B&W film. The nice thing about TMAX was that it could be taken to the 1 hour labs for developing. The bad thing about that was that I just spent about 30 minutes getting the dust specks off this print. No other post processing.

If you scroll down, you will see who he’s waking up with… Here is a version of the track I intended with this shot, unfortunately not my first choice, which was not enabled for embedding here. Jazz pianist extraordinaire. / Newport Jazz Festival, Newport Rhode Island, August 1994 From schirmer.com: / Born on 6 December 1920 in Concord, California, jazz legend Dave Brubeck is equally distinguished as composer and pianist. Studies at the College of the Pacific and with Milhaud at Mills College led to the founding, with fellow students, of the experimental Jazz Workshop Ensemble which recorded in 1949 as the Dave Brubeck Octet. Later, in 1958, the combination of Brubeck with drummer Joe Morello, double bassist Eugene Wright, and alto saxophonist Paul Desmond quickly achieved an overwhelming popular success as the Dave Brubeck Quartet. The Quartet’s experimentation with time signatures unusual to jazz produced works like Blue Rondo a la Turk and Take Five, introducing millions of enthusiastic young listeners to unexplored regions of jazz. The group recorded and performed together continuously through 1967. As composer, Brubeck has written and, in some cases, recorded several large-scale works including two ballets, a musical, an oratorio, four cantatas, a mass, works for jazz combo and orchestra, and many solo piano pieces. In the last 20 years, he has organized several new quartets and continued to appear at the Newport, Monterey, Concord, and Kool Jazz Festivals. Brubeck performed at the White House in 1964 and 1981 and at the 1988 Moscow summit honoring the Gorbachevs. He is the recipient of four honorary degrees, the BMI Jazz Pioneer Award, and the 1988 American Eagle Award presented by the National Music Council. BEST VIEWED LARGE. :) One in my musical themed series I’ve been working on this past week. Inspired by the music in my life. I grew up in a musical family and get-togethers and/or holidays were often spent singing in the living room with various family members playing instruments. I’m sure the neighbors enjoyed it as well. :)
This artwork has been FEATURED in the “Images & Ideas” group. :) One of several music-themed pieces I’ve been working on for the past few days. This is a digital piece using my 1922 sheet music, my photo of a piano and the silhouette came from Wikipedia Commons. I altered and enhanced the original silhouette digitally for this piece. Music has always been a big part of my life, so I thought it was time to bring some of my musical influences into my art work. More of my music themed art works: ((Most any of my musical themed works have compatible color palettes and can be hung in pairs or groups.)) “The Fiddlers” / “My Guitar Guy” / “Scales & Arpeggios” / “Saturday Night Jam” / “Song of The South” / “Encore! Encore!” /

We came up with an idea for a group when a few members brought up the topic of Jazz, and how it has influenced our lives as well as our art. So, since we love Jazz and also love Photography, why not start a group for similar Bubblers out there who share our passion.
The Group is based on any type of Creative Jazz!
Please submit for approval only your best Creative Jazz influenced images.
Here is a You Tube Playlist link for the tunes you hear in Jazzed Up Art Group! Thanks to Rick for this!
