Euclid’s 17th definition from ‘The Elements’ states ‘Parallel straight lines are straight lines which, being in the same plane and produced indefinitely in both directions, do not meet one another in either direction – but sometimes, as they approach infinity, the lines get tired and sag a little’. Featured in ‘Just Lines’ and ‘Irish Eyes’. 193 Views as at 22/11/09.
The light reflects on rivlets of water left by the tide on Firemore Beach, Inverasdale, Wester Ross, Scotland. The image has been rotated through 180 degrees which gives the impression that the water is standing proud of the beach and looks like veins of mercury. Featured in ´Just Lines´ and ‘No More Colour’.
Taken in a field of commercially grown sunflowers (Helianthus annuus) near Creti, Tuscany. Featured in ‘Irish Eyes’, 05/09/09.
The window of the Doll Hospital in Via del Vantaggio, Rome. The features of one particular doll, in its startled lifelike appearance, appear to separate it from the rest. It can be seen in the image ‘Help Me’.
Goatfell on the Island of Arran, Scotland is 2866 feet above sea-level and as such is classed as a ‘Corbett’. This is the view from the top looking across Brodick Bay and the top of the Clauchland Hills. The peak that can be seen in the distance is the highest point of Holy Island, Mullach Mor, situated of Lamlash.
A view from Brodick across Brodick Bay and Merkland Wood towards Goatfell, which is one of the 4 ‘Corbetts’ on the Isle of Arran. The origin of the name ‘Goat Fell’ is taken either from the Norse ‘geita’ for goat, and ‘field’ for mountain or fell, or the Gaelic ‘Gaoithbheinn’ – Mountain of the Wind. With the sky changing and a storm approaching ‘Mountain of the Wind’ does seem more appropriate.
The harbour of a small fishing community on Prince Edward Island. I neglected to record the name. The image ‘Picture Window’ is of the window in the left-hand building.

The Oriental Small-clawed Otter, also known as the Asian Small-clawed Otter is the smallest species of otter in the world, weighing less than 5kg. It lives in mangrove swamps and freshwater wetlands of Bangladesh, Burma, India, southern China, Taiwan, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Australia, and Vietnam. This otter is distinctive for its forepaws as the claws do not extend above the fleshy end pads of its toes and fingers. These attributes give it a high degree of manual dexterity in using its paws to feed on mollusks, crabs and other small aquatic animals. The Oriental Small-clawed Otter lives in extended family groups with only the alpha pair breeding and previous offspring helping to raise the young. Due to ongoing habitat loss, pollution and hunting in some areas, the Oriental small-clawed otter is evaluated as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Please visit my Africa Mission website. [Click on link below] / http://www.philadelphia33.org/ These are just some of the children in Ungwa/Fada village, that are in desperate need of our help. / Disabled by rickets and isolated by most others, they struggle each day just to survive. Lack of Vitamin [D] and other minerals cause Rickets. These children could profit from leg braces in their early years, but having plentiful vitamins even now will help. And their brothers and sisters to be would never have to experience rickets for themselves. / Please send vitamins, clothing, or contribute to my Philadelphia Charity Mission. These children with rickets can, with education, grow up to take care of their families. I observed these little ones during three days, as I lived in the village. They stayed together in a small group, and watched the other children run and play, something they’ll never share in. Other disabled children stayed at the side, too. Three children could not walk and crawled on their hands and knees. One could only move along on her bottom. There is NO HELP or CARE for these children available. They count on you! Still, theirs is a sad life. . . We will with your Prayers, and Financial donations be able to feed, clothe and train and educate as many as we can in skills that will help them. The Abundant Harvest Project, which started in early 2009, began to help eliminate Rickets and most other diseases. But it’s only a start: Without enough donations, it will take a long, long time to help these people, and the new generations will continue to live with the old diseases and troubles. I make regular visits to these villages and people. The children break my heart. / . / Please do what you can to help. ALL ARE PRECIOUS TO GOD. Donate some of your art and save a child’s life! visit our mission website where you can find out more. I felt I must turn back… and we found Susan / at the brink of death. We put her in our old / vehicle and drove her back to the Mission / Centre. Medicine didn’t help… We prayed… / In five days, Susan was completely healed! / God had done what man couldn’t! / Praise God! See what these helpless villagers in the most outlying areas have to drink! What you can’t see is what kills them.

IRISH EYES SHOWCASE The winner of our most recent IRISH EYES challenge was Stephen Maxwell, and as his reward we are showcasing six of his excellent images as a feature:
‘2866’
‘Heads’
‘Sunflower’
‘Half Light’
‘Mercury Sands’
‘Goatfell’.
Passing through,
Euclid’s 17th definition,
straight edges,
the claw,
at the dance,
two tribes,
Abstract art is intriguing and although so simple, Stephen is a master at drawing us in to look further and find more. Well done Stephen
IF YOU’RE IRISH COME INTO THE PARLOUR ….. THERE’S A WELCOME HERE FOR YOU
Irish Eyes is for all photographers, artists and writers from the North and South of Ireland, whether they are resident in Ireland or are living or working overseas, but who came from some part of Ireland.
Local Images
It’s totally different from NLNI and the Ireland groups in that the group will feature only art, images and writing from anywhere in the world; but as seen by Irish Eyes
Currently NI and Ireland groups are restricted to art from that part of Ireland, yet their artists produce a lot more work overseas. The current NLNI and Ireland groups aren’t affected and NI and Ireland images will still be separate, and Irish Eyes will be a sister group to both
When Irish Eyes are Smiling …. Then Irish Eyes are Seeing
